Default 1993 Topps Finest Refractor

Greetings,
Hope all is good at everyone's end. I have been working on 1993 Topps Finest Refractor set slowly in past 18 months and I have 88 cards out of 199. They are very fun to chase and build. Im curious if anyone out there is working on the set as well? I have few extras to trade for the ones I need.

I would love to see us talk some more about this set.

Best,
Danny

Hey Danny-

I NEVER understood the $$ people were/are willing to pay for the refractors...as a Nolan Ryan collector I have one (and the base) but sometimes I still question why I paid as much as I did for it (in '96).

BUT...I get that people collect different things...

They are beautiful cards. I've been trying to nail down the Bernie Williams at a reasonable price for about 18 months now with no luck.

Have you seen the 2013 '93 Refractors? It's like we've been sent back to the mid 90s. The Pujols is up over a thousand with a couple of days left.

I love that there's a modern set without an auto/inch of fabric selling for this kind of money. Feels like a great throwback set.

Default 1993 Topps Finest Refractors

I have a few 93 Finest refractors. At last count I have 3340 with one on the way. What I like doing is making shortprints. Beckett defines shortprints as 20% of the production run. So far I have made 10 shortprints. The most I have of one player is Randy Myers with 107 or 44.4% of the production run. I collect mostly commons. You can get 10 commons for the price of a star. I wrote a program to track eBay. I have data on the refractors going back to 2004.

Default 93 Dodgers refractors

I put together a Dodgers team set in PSA9. The Piazza and Hershiser were the most difficult to obtain. Althought the price of the Piazza was slightly higher I found that the Hershiser was most difficult since it's tough to find in high grade (most are OC).

Not sure I could ever think of a "throwback" set that has Refractors in it but I understand the thought!
