Default What am I?

Posted By: Paul

I look like an M114 Baseball Magazine premium. I picture the 1923 Giants, and the Standard Catalog even lists the 1923 Giants in the M114 set. But I am only 7" tall by 11" wide, much smaller than the typical 9"x12" M114. My photograph is only about 4.5" x 9.5". The 1925 Giants from the M114 set has a much larger photo, about 6.5" x 10". So, I probably developed my small stature naturally, rather than through the use of a scissor. My back is blank, so I probably was never part of a magazine.

So, what am I?

And, by the way, was the trainer of the 1923 Giants (middle row, far right) black?

What's amazing is that you have (apparently invisible) arms with which to type your missives. Most sepia-toned premiums aren't quite as well-spoken as you appear to be. Kudos to you!

Did you go to Brown?

Both trainers were black.

I didn't go to Brown.

Any thoughts on what this thing might be? Are the M114s from some years in this smaller size?

I can't help you on what this piece is, and I'm far from a card expert, but this is the first issue I have seen which depicts Moses "The Rabbi of Swat" Solomon in a big league unifrom. That, in itself, is very cool!

No mystery there.

It is an M114. The team photos are of varying sizes. The players in M114 are generally uniform in size.

I have that one. I've always liked it because there's a bunch of HOFers on it.

It was not "part of a magazine", but was a premium that was offered for sale from Baseball Magazine.

I see a "Gross" listed at the end of the front row. Am I correct that this is 1925 debut Ewell "Turkey" Gross? I have been searching for a pic of him for some time.

Frank, thank you very much.

Jodi, I realize I missed a good opportunity for a joke. When you asked if I went to Brown, I should have said "No I went to Sepia."

Now, does anyone know if John McGraw was able to hire black trainers for this team?
