Default 1960 Fleer Lefty O'Doul

If you look closely, you can see he rolled his dress shirt sleeves up under his jersey...from the Boston Herald archives.

Here's what Sandy Koufax called the biggest World Series game of his career. It set the tone for the 4 game beatdown that the Dodgers inflected on the Bombers. This series was a "get even" series as the boys in blue, blew the deflated Yanks right out of the House that Ruth built!

The photo has become an iconic image in the Sports World of Baseball Card Collecting Baby Boomers (like most everyone here).

Interesting that an 1895 image is used on a 20th century card.

Here's the same photo in a National Copper Plate supplement, with a Sporting Life cover photo glued to it (since removed):

This is a great scroll through. I am very impressed with this aspect of collecting. I don't know if I could see a photo and quickly associate it with any card. So I impressed that people made some of the connections, especially tight crops or tilts.

I also posted this in the November pickups a few days ago. Apologies to those who may have already seen it there.

Obviously not a Pre-War card, but this image of Mickey Mantle and Hank Aaron at Yankee Stadium during the 1957 World Series was used for the 1958 Topps card number 418 - "World Series Batting Foes"

The International News Photos stamp on the back didn't come out well in the scan, so I'm not showing it here, but it is the one used from 1949 - 1957, according to "A Portrait of Baseball Photography"

I do not own this photo (not sure if that's a requirement for this thread), but thought this was a good match.

Thought I would bring this one back to the front page. I found this 1936 Billy Herman photo shot in Catalina during spring training. I knew that I had come across this image before but could not narrow it down. I discovered today that the photo was used in two of the Wheaties series. It was first used in 1936 and then reversed and used once again the following year in the 1937 series.

Not sure what to make of this one but the background with some Seals has been cropped out of the original photo used to make the 49' Sommer & Kaufmann.
