Default Five more cards and my '56 Topps set is complete!

I'm so close, but I've yet to snag an Aaron or an Aparicio, plus 3 other minor/common cards. The cards are mostly in VG/EX+, however the Mantle is a PSA 1, since that's all I could afford for now.

I just think this set is beautiful and has almost every player in it that I could want (except Musial). The artwork is great and the backs are classic. I originally tried to complete the '52 Topps set until I realized even the commons would break the bank. This is the first vintage set I've tried to build and just got back into cards after a 20 year hiatus. Fun!

Default Wow!

I like the 2 images that are shown on the '56 topps card. Let us know when you wrap it up.

It's complete! Well, it will be when the last cards arrive but I've purchased them all. I actually got a deal on TWO Aaron's and a really nice Aparicio. Can't wait to get it all together.

Thanks Doug. Any suggestions on the best place to buy plastic holders for them? I'm about 100 short. I see lots of the "UltraPro" (I think) on ebay. Are those the standard?

Hopefully this is what you are looking for. It's a lot of 100 Ultra Pro top loaders: http://cgi.ebay.com/Toploaders-Ultra...-/360288212165

I completely agree. And only wish that Musial had made is Topps debut a few years earlier.

Congrats on completing your set.

Regards,

Richard.

I couldn't agree with you more about the 1956 Topps set. Its one of my favorite sets from the 50's! Congrats on finishing this set. So, what are you going to collect now?

Laugh if you want, but I want to do the 1977 Topps set next.

Congrats! I second (third? fourth?) all the comments about '56 Topps being one of the best-looking sets of the decade.

Just curious -- why '77 Topps?

Two reasons: It's my birth year and it has Dale Murphy's rookie card. He was my favorite player as a kid.

There is nothing to laugh at. Topps 1977 is a great set. I finished mine about a year ago. Be warned though the centering is really tough on that set. It took me buying 4 vending boxes of 1977 Topps to get a decent set! I really like the simplicity of it, not to mention a great roster of hall of famers. Of course what puts the cherry on top is that its my birth year so it was only natural for me to collect that set! Good luck!

No laughing here. I'm almost done with my '77 set as well (mid-grade, comprised mainly of cards I pulled out of packs when I was ten). I will say this about the Manny Sanguillen, though: Ugliest. Card. Ever.

That Manny Sanguillen is pretty bad. About the only card that might be worse is the 1956 Don Mossi! Despite Mossi, I agree that the 56 Topps set is the most beautiful, I'm about 83% done with my set. Congrats on completing yours some of those high numbers (Rocky Bridges & Connie Johnson) are real hard to get with decent centering.
