Al - I must not have the eye for detail, what are the variants on the Bright & McDaniel?

Default 1961

The top Bright has a blue arc above his butt.

On Lindy, look between his legs...orange slash, green dot or neither. The green dot is a little hard to see in the scan

If I had a "dollar" for every 61 Topps card that I found with some green ink bleeding into the card #'s circle....well, I would have a lot of dollars. They are plentiful, and for some reason people pay huge sums for just one of them...I had 4 Fairly's before deciding to sell one copy and was shocked when a VG-EX copy with green in the circle sold for $200. I have sold a few 501 DeMerit cards and at best they bought me about $15 apiece. There are many commons I have seen throughout this set that have the green ink bleeding into the circle...too many to keep track of based on the lack of interest in all but the 491 and 501 cards.

Below are the 3 copies of the Fairly "green in the circle" card I have, the back of one of my 501 cards, a copy of a 447 card with excess green ink bleeding, and finally a card of Ben's, the black hat # 299 Clay D(I am still on the look out for another copy of this black hat card).

Default Fairly

The Fairly sells high because PSA has slabbed them as variations and added it to it 's master 61 set list. Why is a mystery since as you say it is a common 61 print defect. And it does not seem to matter if there is just a speck or green or the bottom of the ball is all green.

I wonder what PSA would do if you sent them the Demint with a scan of the ska bed Fairly and asked for similar treatment

Very minor, but 1961 Topps #400 Vern Law can be found with a recurring print flaw where a large chunk of the middle "0" in 400 is missing on the back of the card.

Default Back Print defects

Those back variants are hard to run down since back scans are not often available on ebay

Thanks for clarification Al. I thought the arc was just a water spot on the card. I see Lindy's now that you point them out.

Cheers,

Most of these are not scarce and easy to find on ebay
