Is anyone interested in British cigarette cards? The subjects are incredibly diverse, so if you are interested in something in particular, let me know. I would like to trade for any pre-war beaters you have lying around, especially T202s (even end and center panels that have been seperated are fine). If there is any interest, I may go to a card show in London this weekend to have a look around...

Cheers,
Geno

Geno,

Where's the show at? Is it at a hotel called the Royal Britain Hotel (or something like that)? I think they do one every third Saturday of the month at that place. It's pretty good. You can find a lot of American tobacco cards there. There's not much in the way of baseball. If there is the sellers have a clue and they wont be giving it away. It's a great place to pick up some Allen & Ginters, Dukes, Kinney Bros and other 19th century manufacturers cards. It's worth the time spent to go.

I'd be interested in any Irish themed cards, especially Hurling Players. There are a few sets from the 20's, possibly earlier.

Yep, that's the one (Royal National Hotel). I've never been before, so I thought I'd go give it a look. There is an African World of Sport Babe Ruth in the auction they are holding, along with some nice boxing cards, but I'm not really expecting to find a goldmine of baseball stuff. I just thought it would be more fun than going Christmas shopping!

I'll keep my eyes open for Irish cards cards, Bob.

Take Care, Geno

You're going to be surprised at how cheap some of the Brit tobacco sets from the 30's are selling for. There are a lot of interesting subject matters covered. One set that is pretty cool is Engineering Wonders. That set is cheap but it's pretty nice (if you like that kind of stuff).

I'd keep my eyes peeled for the American stuff. Hopefully they haven't jacked the prices too high on it. Good luck trying to bargain with those folks/blokes.

You were right about those guys knowing their stuff - no chance of a baseball card slipping under their noses! Nobody had any, but one guy mentioned he had a card at home that he was going to send me a scan of. I'm pretty sure he was describing the RJ Hill card that shows Tris Speaker(?). I picked one up last year and posted a scan on N54 to see what it was, though nobody was sure. The only thing anyone really knew was that the photo looked like Speaker. Anyway, hopefully he gets in touch with me. I'd post a scan of mine, but it is buried away at the moment...

I did pick up a couple cool hockey cards (generic, no players) from 1929 and 1935. They are from the same sets as the Ruth card - Sports and Games in Many Lands, one being Churchman and the other being Edwards, Ringer. The cards shows a town hockey game that looks like an old christmas card photo - definitely worth the pickup!

And I even found an Irish hurling card for Bob! All in all, good experience, but not really a need to return next month unless I happen to be in that area...

Take Care, Geno

Isn't that what they do on St. Patrick's Day

Sorry, Leon, had to comment.

that too, but the sport itself is possibly the most voilent there is. It`s almost a blend of lacrosse, field hockey(the sticks that is) and rugby, without any pads! OUCH

There are a bunch of golf issues, both with golfers and with courses. Here's a couple courses from a Wills 1924 issue. The cards are bigger than standard cigarette cards - unfortunately they are a bit rough. They would normally go for about $15 apiece over here, but that's if they were in nicer condition. $10 ppd ought to cover this pair, or a pre-war baseball beater. The cards are The 17th Approach at Gleneagles and The 5th Green at Ganton. If you are interested in them, let me know...

Take Care, Geno
