Default Young, Mathewson, Johnson, & Alexander - Pop 20 or below

I assume everyone is enjoying seeing the fabulous cards of Ruth, Cobb, Wagner & Jackson in this current thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=255760

But, as so often is the case, the focus is on great hitters, as opposed to great pitchers. So, I have started this thread to show some love to four of the greatest pitchers of the same era.

Show your treasured cards of Cy, Matty, WaJo, and Pete that have a population of 20 or less in the combined PSA & SGC pop reports. And, let's make this competitive - let's strive to show more scarce/rare cards than are shown in the hitters thread! And, please show the backs of your cards, unless the backs are blank.

I'll start with this 1911 Baseball Bats of WaJo (my avatar) - my card is raw, and there are 4 in the combined pop reports:

Also 1917 Merchants Bakery & Weil Baking cards of WaJo.

I don't know the population reports, but there can't be many of these.

found a few others. been a long time since the Mathewson bottle from the Halper auction has seen the light of day, so here it is (one of my favorite pieces!). part of a set of 6 NY Giants bottles. i believe they are a unique set?

Also an M101-1 Sporting News Cy Young, a Close Candy Young, and an E92 Dockman Young.

And also ex-Halper, the large T200 Washington Senators with Walter.

The toughest Young of the W600's, the Cleveland version, but the earlier Boston is probably more popular.

Hi Scott - For the 1909 Cleveland cards Sporting Life utilized the same picture of Cy Young wearing a Boston lace-top uniform as was used for his previous cards. These cards were issued near the very end of the W600 run. Hence scarcer.

Erick, I love your D381s, especially the WaJo. And, thanks for showing a Grover C. Alexander card - I was beginning to feel sorry for old "Pete" because none of his cards had yet been shown in this thread, and I don't have any in my collection to show.

My 1920 D327-1 Holsum Bread - WaJo card is raw. The pop reports show 1 (SGC) plus two 1921 D327-2 cards (1 each for PSA & SGC). I'd love to add a D327-2 to my WaJo collection.

Awesome cards everyone. Great thread! This one is not rare per second, but rare for the grade? (Heck I just wanted to participate!)

Awesome cards everyone. Great thread! This one is not rare per second, but rare for the grade? (Heck I just wanted to participate!)
Ryan, thanks (I think) for the compliment. Since I am old and a Senators collector, I'll pretend I'm in good company with "The Old Fox" (a/k/a Clark Griffith, Senators owner and GM).

Ryan, you found a loophole with your "rare for the grade" Cy Young. Clever like a fox!

Getting back to this thread, my 1917 D350-2 Standard Biscuit - WaJo card is raw. Per the combined pop reports, this is the only example in existence on this planet (I couldn't resist using this Goodwin Auctions superlative)!

Don't know the pop report on these cards but am guessing there are less than 20 copies of each.

The 1914 Cracker Jack probably exceeds the twenty-or-less criteria but everyone seems to like this one so I'll post it anyway.

Erick - this would make a good compliment to your individual cards.

Beautiful cards, everyone!

Less than 20 T213-3...and I'm not aware of any other Factory 8 Overprint...

I did a quick google search to see how many different W600s Cy Youngs I could find. Seems they all are scarce. I found two Images of the Cleveland Young unless they are the same below? Image on the left came off VCP and the one on the right was what Scott posted. When dealing with W600s, the mounts have different scarcity as well as, the images and player identification.

Interesting, before this comparison I thought these were the only two W600 Cy Young Clevelands I could find, now when reexamining the side by sides they do appear to be the SAME cabinet, the first must have had some minor tweaking of the scan?? As they both have the stain in the exact spot.

Terrific array of Matty items, Jeff. Particularly like the Factoryville home postcard. Just gets you thinking about life in those halcyon deadball days.

Some amazing cards in this thread thus far, especially Mattys and Youngs. Still hoping to see more Alexanders.

The E122 Am. Caramel WaJo is much tougher (combined pop reports - 8) than either series (80 or 120) of the E121 Am Caramel WaJo.
