Default Graded altered material - GAI

Posted By: Judge Dred

It appears that GAI will grade altered cards. The seller has stated that the card was professionally restored. The card was given the lowest grade possible, rightfully so considering the condition.

So when does SGC step up to the plate and PSA (although people say the PSA altready does this with the AUTHENTIC grade assignment).

Default Graded altered material - GAI

I read this as GAI graded it with the hole, then the seller removed the card and had it repaired, and is now selling the repaired card with the original GAI label. This card is not currently graded by GAI, it is in a soft sleeve with their old sticky label on it.

PSA on the other hand, has graded a card "trimmed - authentic" with the word trimmed on their label! Now when I submit a card and it is considered trimmed by 1 of the 18 year old grading guru's, it is returned to me ungraded.

grading is a cancer!

If I submitted this, it comes back trimmed and ungraded.

Default Graded altered material - GAI

Is this the Robinson Jeff S. sold a while back with what looked like a .22 calibre bullet hole through it? I remember that one being in a GAI holder, and it looks like where I remember the bullet hole being.

If it's the card I'm thinking of, the seller needs to clear a couple hundred on something he's admitting has been restored just to break even, and that's not counting restoration costs...

A shame. I actually thought the card had a lot of character in its former condition.

isn't the reprint thing, it is the fact that it made a 2.

Default Graded altered material - GAI

I am selling this card. In fairness to GAI this card is not currently graded, and I mentioned that in the discription. Dan is right, I bought this card from Jeff Sackman last year encapsulated by GAI as a "1" with a hole it. I busted it out and it has been professionally restored. It is still a 1, but I did it for asthetic purposes only as I am sure I will lose money on the deal and did not do it to try and make money. Not trying to mislead anyone with the item discription, I just included the label to show that nothing else was done to the card and it passed trimming, recoloring etc inpections before I had the hole repaired. It looks great now, but I seriously doubt any company would give it a number grade, and GAI has not looked at it since I had it restored.

It's a cool card, regardless. FWIW, I think your description was as accurate as it could be, and the picture makes it clear that it's not currently encapsulated. Thanks for coming on and clarifying anyway, though.

I hope nobody assumed I was accusing anyone of wrong doing here. I just saw the card in a sleeve with a GAI grading label. I only assumed that the card was a "quick grade" as was done by the SCD grading services. I believe that SCD used to place them in the soft sleeves with their label over the end to seal the card into the sleeve.

It is a nice card, even though it was restored. Now it looks more familiar because I remember it on Jeff Sackmans web site a while back.

I hope I didn't offend the seller on this one - if so, my apologies.

I would like to know how someone got PSA to encapsulate a card as trimmed and authentic. I want to use this same service from PSA but it's not listed on their web site. Do we tell PSA that we want it encapsulated as altered but authentic?

Thanks!
