Default Mastronet-----Predictions?

Posted By: Adam J. Baxter

Hi all,

Mastronet's current auction closes in about 14 hours. Anyone have any predictions for the closing prices on any of the lots? Originally I had thought that both the California League N172's (Donahue & Dooley) would probably close at around 20k a piece, but the Donahue's already crushed that prediction (28k+) and the Dooley (15k) seems on pace to do the same. There's no question that this is one of the best lots of vintage cards in any auction to come around in a while.

like all of these big auctions it is hard to predict. for one, the final selling price almost always far exceeds what the card probably should sell for. 3000? for a common vg kbat seems a little high.

I predict that I will stay up all night ... change my mind a thousand times on which item I "really need" ...

and end up with NOTHING.

Tonight:

CRAP. Just got outbid on the Ty Cobb BASEBALL CARD that I wanted to win ...

But wait! Who needs a baseball card when you can have an autographed BASEBALL signed by Ty Cobb!!!

Ouch! I got outbid on the dumb ball (who would want a stupid ball) ... but I can still bid on the BOOK signed by Ty Cobb!!

GRRRR ... outbid on the book (who would want a Ty Cobb autograph anyway) ... but I can still win the STADIUM SEATS that once occupied Tiger Stadium where Ty Cobb played!!!

Darn ... outbid on the seat ... but it's never too late to bid on that used piece of gum that was once chewed by Ty Cobb's neighbor!!! WHAT COULD BE BETTER!!!

(Good thing I placed early bids on all these items)

Hal

All I can say, is if you fulfill Jay's prediction, you will soon have a perfect companion for it.

I can't help you with the gum however.

<<I predict Hal will get the PSA10 Aaron>>

I pretty much had that one earmarked for Dmitri. It is one of the sparse few post-war HOF rookies that he currently does not own in 10. (I believe Tom still owns the first 10)

Good News: I am the current leader for Hammerin' Hank.

Bad News: That lot doesn't end until TOMORROW night ... so the waiting will continue.

But maybe the Tigers will go out of business in the meantime??

He plays for the Detroit Tigers. He has a buying agent bid on Ebay for him when and if he deems fit. He does have an amazing run of post-war HOF rookie cards in 10 or equivalent condition (he has a number of GAI 9.5s....)

In fact, I think it is his Koufax GAI 9.5 that is consigned in the Mastro auction...

Hal--Not only do I expect you to beat him for the card I hope you challenge him to a race and I bet you can beat his fat ass in that too.

Since the guy that picks the lottery numbers seem to hate me, I will NOT be buying the lot of 520+ T206 cards (all PSA 4 to PSA 8).

If you're going to drop six figures on cards, it makes much more sense to me to do it this way than buy a "1 of 1" Lebron James patch on Ebay.

Best of luck to those of you that are bidding in the auction.

I have figured out how to beat Dmitri Young for the Aaron card.

I am going to put an auction on EBAY for a "Seven-Layer Chocolate Cake" that ends at the same time as the Aaron auction.

So if Dimitri has a purchasing agent, who is Hal a front for? Marv Throneberry? Choo Choo Coleman? Dick Stuart? We demand answers.

I guess I pissed him off with the fatty-fat-fat jokes.

He just outbid me again!

WARNING: YOU HAD BETTER BRING EVERY BIT OF THAT $7.75 MILLION SALARY, DMITRI ... BECAUSE I WANT "THE HAMMER"!!!

(let's see how bad he plays tonight with this pressure on his shoulders!)

* If nothing else, I have driven up the value of my 1954 Aaron PSA 9.

Over the last couple minutes some of the more interesting OJ lots sky rocketed over $10,000 apiece. The large lots jumped as well as the PCL cards at $45k each!

I'd love to know who is playing in the OJ game at this point. Crazy stuff!
