A few years ago Mastro had their National Sports Convention Dinner at the Museum. We were told at that time it was going to be made public. Gary is a very nice gentleman with a great collection. It's not real heavy on cards but he does have some nice ones. The memorabilia is the real standout in the collection, imo.....It was a very nice evening as the Mastro events always are........regards

Is it just me or what? Gary's t206 Wagner looks like an aged reprint. It is definitely trimmed and it is being stored in a regular screwdown.

David Kohler says "I dont know of any other collection in the world that has the depth and variety of what Gary has," so it must be true. After all, David was a founding board member with the Sports Collectibles Association International (SCAI), which promoted ethics in the sports collectibles industry.

To be clear, I have heard nothing but good things about Gary and his museum, but it is curious to me that he would have someone like David Kohler bid for him on the 1938 Ruth uniform. I know many bidders prefer to remain anonymous, but he certainly hasn't remained anonymous with several articles quoting Kohler as bidding on behalf of a "client." The LA Times article mentions the Ruth uniform in the museum, so it's not rocket science to figure out who the "client" was. Why would someone with a good reputation like Mr. Cypres want to be publicly linked with someone with a "different" reputation like Dave Kohler?

I have been in Gary's museum on two occassions, one going several years back and the Ruth uniform which he owns was on display both times. Presumably there are two that exist as he certainly did not buy his in the last two weeks.

Anthony,

Here's the L.A. Times article: http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-memories18-2008nov18,0,1922334.story

Looks like the museum opens on Nov. 28th.
