You know, if you look at the face closely, it sure doesn't look like Cy Young. Good observation (or a reversed negative).

It does look a bit like Cy in the face, but if you compare the T206 Youngs, you'll see it looks even more like Irv-- really almost the same pose.

I think they both ate at the same place which makes it hard to tell.

I'm so used to looking at IRV that I always picture CY with his face.

Several sets mistakenly pictured Irving Young as Cy.

T206 had it right. Irving Young

E97 is not Cy

Regarding that E97, now that we all realize it is not Cy & is a lowly common, I am buying and will pay full book at the "common" price

Or is the E97 a rare "error" card that makes it worth more?

No doubt that it is Irv Young pictured... so THANKFULLY they have "CY" on the front and not just "YOUNG"

The E97 and E98 Youngs actually picture Irv not Cy although Cy's name is on the card. The E90-1, E93 and E94 Youngs are all the real thing. I've always wondered why the E97s and E98s aren't worth comparatively less, I guess most collectors didn't realize this or don't care. Would you pay a huge premium for an E94 Cobb with Buddy Cobb pictured on the card?

The Yum Yum of Anson actually pictures Ned Williamson. If you auction it does it get an Anson price or a Williamson price?

I agree with Bob...why pay that much for a card that isn't even Cy? If I wanted cards that didn't picture the guy whose name is on there I'd just collect e91 - it would be much cheaper. If I ever tried to put together e98 or e97 I either wouldn't buy the Young or would buy the roughest condition card that I could find.

The fact that e97 and e98 both picture irv young must mean that both used the same pool of pictures. Maybe Briggs was the producer of e98 making it a candy set for sure.

The e97 irv young/cy young is so scarce that it will always be worth a lot. Good point, however, on the e98. Maybe it should be worth less......nah.

I don't know about that reasoning actually. Joe Jax e90 doesn't look like him. I'm pretty sure he had a nose.
We all know that d304 doesn't look like the players, but i still like em.

Whenever there are players with similar last names, there is the chance for confusion. I think the T206 Doyle error was caused because there were two Doyles playing in New York at the same time. We can't assume that the workers who are designing and printing cards at the factory are avid baseball fans who know a Cy Young from an Irv Young. They might not have even followed baseball, so they could easily have made such an error.

I don't think the e90-1 Jackson is that bad, except for the registration of the red, which is off most of the time and ends up giving him a red Hitler moustache. I would imagine that the image on the card is taken from a real picture of Jackson during his short time with the A's.

The D304's are all over the map - the Barry and the Cobb come to mind as ones that are really well done and are a good representation of the player. The Wagner looks a bit ridiculous IMO.

I bought this in my pre-addiction days and didn't realize it was Irv until I told Kevin Struss "Hey Kevin, check out this great Cy Young I just got from Tik". He said something like "Oh yeah, that's a nice card of Irv". I played it off like I knew what he was talking about.....

Which, of course, would explain why TBob AND Leon sold me the following "Cy" Young cards without any mentioned whatsoever of the infamous "Irv":

I'm just one of those guys with dollars but no "cents"!!

This thread got me so worried that I had to go buy the E94 Cy Young card last night.

Was this all a ploy by the seller of that card??
