Default 54 Aaron trimmed? I know not vintage, but...

Posted By: Damian

I hoping Leon will give me some room here because folks here have the best free opinions. My best friend picked this card up for a decent price and sent me a scan. I told him I am almost positive it is altered/trimmed. I noticed a specific area on the card that led me to believe this. I would like anyone to give their opinions and see if they match mine. He is pretty upset at my opinion. The card was acquired at a show. Hopefully thanks for the leeway.

looks like it is trimmed on the right side. You can usually tell by comparing the sides. Is one smoother than the others if you glide your finger along the surface of the sides? Is one side lighter in terms of color? And what are the exact measurements of the card?

Why would anyone trim a card that badly off center/miscut? That said, the right border seems to completely disappear towards the bottom.

I agree - trimmed... look at the right side; there is a slight white border until you get down to Aaron's uniform, then the white disappears. Also, looks like the top may be trimmed, too.

I would say it is trimmed. The left border doesn't match the slant of the right.I would add that 54's are notrious for odd trimming, but this doesn't look right to me.

As a guy who has probably had about 100 1954 Topps Aaron's over the years- I'm not sure you can really make more than a somewhat educated guess as to whether this card is trimmed from the scan (or from any scan)- unless the trimming is very noticeably uneven or blatant. I would not want to guess from this scan. You really need to be able to measure it and touch it to do a proper "trimming assesment". Good luck-

Looks to me like a very slight tilt cut, but not trimmed. It is easy enough to stack it on top of another '54 Topps card to see if it measures up. Why would somebody trim a card to the point of 100/0 centering?

For a little further clarification on off topic stuff I would like to add that this is the right way to go about it. Someone acknowledges they read and post on the board, every now and then. The original poster knows what he's doing and has abided by the rules. There would be less angst over this stuff if folks would just read the rules (FAQ's) and know what they are doing. I do realize this is a very open forum so am aware it takes all kinds. As for this Aaron I have only owned one PSA7....I'll defer to Kevin S's comments....regards all

If the card was trimmed on the right, it has experienced a bit of wear since that time, as evidenced by the corner rounding. But why would someone years ago cut off the already narrow bordered side? It does not appear to make sense. Therefore, I think that the defects apparent from the scan came from the manufacturer. But a scan is not really sufficient evidence.

Kevin Savage is part of the party now! Cool.......GREAT guy.......
Looks trimmed in the lower right. JC.....we have some surgeons here in Louisville that are renowned for re-attaching hands/arms.....they did the hand transplant on some dude from Philly.....maybe they could help your Aaron.....take a Del Crandall arm and replant it on Aaron..........

i would say due to the centering and huge left border, odds are the the card is 100% legit. i imagine it;s a bit tilt cut as Jim says.

with that of the right border (moves ever so slightly to the left as it goes down). If not, I suppoase in 1954 there were still people who didn't care about borders, and were trying to make the card fit something.

No, you can't tell from the scan.
