Default Most collected teams?

Aside from the Yanks, Redsox and probably Dodgers? What teams would you say are the most collected? I'm curious where the Orioles would stack up.

I'd put in a vote for the Cards and Giants.

Well, if you think about it in terms of economics, the O's come in at #19 (according to Forbes in 2017). By this measure, the usual suspects come out on top (Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, etc.). Since this accounts for gate revenues, merchandise, tv deals, etc., I bet this is a pretty good current guess.

But I bet it also depends on demographics. Guys like me would rank them higher because I saw Ripken, Jr. play when I was a kid, and he was awesome. Pretty much when someone says Orioles, he pops into my head; along with Billy, but that is another thread.
Also, Forbes has Toronto ranked higher. Really Forbes???? Really????

Default Orioles

Unsure where the Orioles would rank, but they are my number one collected team, so on my personal list they'd be #1.

Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Cardinals and Cubs would be the top 5. Post war Brooklyn Dodgers are huge, but LA Dodgers wouldn't make the top 5.

I wonder what Washington having a team again has done for 50s, 60’s, 70s Senator cards and memorabilia

With sales from my ebay store over the last 3 months of the original 16 teams, here they are in order of total units sold: 1)Pirates, 2) Red Sox, 3)Tigers, 4) Yankees, 5) Cardinals, 6) A's, 7) Cubs, 8) Reds, 9) Braves, 10) Chisox, 11) Giants, 12)Orioles, 13) Senators/Twins, 14)Phillies, 15) Dodgers, 16) Indians.

Overall, fairly close spread amongst all teams....Pirates cards accounted for 5.2% of total units sold, while the Indians accounted for 4.1% of the total.

It ain’t the Twins, which I appreciate from a pricing standpoint...

The Cubs, at least for me - the team I've been a fan of since 1989. Unlike the dilemma that I would imagine old Yankees or Brooklyn Dodgers team collectors have, most of what I go after can be had pretty much on the cheap. Even higher grade cards of Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, and Ron Santo can be had for very reasonable prices in most cases outside of rookie cards.

I did a search based on what people are watching on ebay. Obviously take it for what it is because some people may watch things other than for the team.

This is based on the top 4 watched items for a team. I removed caps because non fans buy those just for color or logo. I also removed tshirts for a similar reason. The totals are the combined number of watchers for those top 4 items. Here are the results I got:

1112 Los Angeles Dodgers
1065 New York Yankees
962 Chicago Cubs
736 Kansas City Royals
724 Chicago White Sox
717 Pittsburgh Pirates
714 Cleveland Indians (2 of the 4 items were Major League the Movie related)
710 Atlanta Braves
645 Houston Astros
587 Seattle Mariners
579 Miami Marlins
559 New York Mets
507 Baltimore Orioles
462 Detroit Tigers
454 Los Angeles Angels
429 Cincinnati Reds
427 St. Louis Cardinals
404 Philadelphia Phillies
401 Oakland Athletics
397 Boston Red Sox
390 San Francisco Giants
361 Texas Rangers
334 San Diego Padres
306 Toronto Blue Jays
283 Arizona Diamondbacks
264 Washington Nationals
253 Minnesota Twins
205 Tampa Bay Rays
154 Milwaukee Brewers
143 Colorado Rockies

That's terrific research, Andy.

Allow me to repeat what your family has probably already said, 'You've got way, way too much time on your hands.'
