Default T206 Schlei & Wiltse (Twins or Errors) ?

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis

Of all the T206 cards, these two of Admiral Schlei and Hooks Wiltse have
always "bugged" me. Are they "twins" with different names ? Did the T206
designers mix-up the pictures ? And, is one of these a "photo error" card ?

There is a plausible reason for a mix-up since Schlei came to the NY Giants
during the period the T206 set was being produced. I referred to my Spalding
Guide photos of these two guys and the portrait of Wiltse is somewhat differ-
ent than his picture on this card. In fact it is identical to Wiltse's (no cap)
card in the 1st Series (150).
Anyhow, both these two cards are in the very last Series (460-only) of the set;
so, perhaps after working on such a huge production, "player fatigue" set in
with the T206 designers and they used Schlei's photo for Wiltse.

Am I the only T206 "nut" that suspects an error card here, or has this struck
a cord with any others on this Forum ?

Daniel B

Here is how he portrayed in the 1st Series (150) card of him. I don't really see a close resemblance to his above 460 Series card.

Daniel, that's a great photo of Wiltse! Is it original? sorry to hijack the thread... I do think the two cards posted look eerily similar. They both seem to have rather large, protruding eyebrows. BTW, was there ever any conclusion as to which Camnitz cards belong to which of the Camnitz boys in the set???
