1954 NY Journal American question

Has anyone ever seen a 1954 NY Journal American without the serial number at the bottom? There are about a huindred sold listings on ebay and every one of them has the number. Mine is full size, unaltered and slabbed by PSA, but has no serial number. Will post a scan later. Thanks in advance for your input.

Bump because I thought this was a good question.

In the NY Journal American historical archives i could not find much. Perhaps I will have to research this issue when I return from this trip.

Anyone?

I would think it possible there were samples without serial numbers or maybe one slipped by that never got slapped with one.
