Default Vintage Team Glass Negative

All, I just bought a glass negative of a baseball team from the early 1900s. I finally figured out how to scan it using my old scanner and then uploaded it into Photoshop to convert the negative into a positive. Does anyone have any idea what team this could be and a more educated guess as to what year? Any ideas about the value of the negative would be appreciated too. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Robbie

It will be almost impossible to figure out what team it is unless there is more info obtainable. As for the year, I am not an expert but would guess the early 1920s based on their dress. I will probably be corrected.

First of all, kudos on figuring out a way to scan the negative with a standard scanner (at least, that's what I'm understanding you did). I'm sure others here would like to hear how you managed to do so. For myself, I messed aroudn with it for a while, and finally broke down and bought an Epson 4990 scanner to handle the medium format and larger negatives that I have.

Any chance you could crop/enlarge one of the patches on the uniform sleeves? That might help narrow down an ID.

The only team that I am seeing with a City/Mascot combination of K/P (which may be an incorrect assumption) around that time is the Knoxville Pioneers (1921-24). Unfortunately I don't have any photo references for them to compare to. Having grown up in Knoxville though, I would be very interested to know if anyone can confirm or preclude that as a possiblity.

Later matching City/Mascot combos include the Keokuk (Iowa) Pirates (1947-49), Kingston (New York) Ponies (1947), and Kingston (Ontario) Ponies (1946-51), though as Leon noted, I wouldn't guess those based on the clothing styles.

I agree with what Leon said. Likely a small time local team.

Nice negative. I don't recall seeing many team negatives like that.

Default To thecatspajamas

I learned how to scan a glass negative from on old flatbed scanner from a guy named snap-happy1. He has the instructions posted on flickr, here is the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/3437076...7623112124319/ Thank you for your input. This is a fun project trying to figure out who this team is and possibly some of the player's names.

I think the KP could stand for the Knights of Pythias. I googled Knights of Pythias and found some jerseys with KP on them. Just a thought.
