So big a prospect he was using another dude’s bat?

BTW - JR Phillips was gonna “replace” Will Clark, across the Bay.

A K.C. Monarchs vs. House of David barnstorming ticket stub. It came in a lot of 1930s St. Paul Saints ticket stubs, so it could very well be from a game played at Lexington Park. So far, I've seen some references to them touring up here in 1934, but am still researching potential dates.

Default Mail Day!

Picked up this cool Jim Rice bat. I think it is a pro model? But with someone else's number on the knob; so maybe a teammate? Minor Leagues?

And, a picked up this EPIC ticket from a good friend of mine. I am very excited to put that in the baseball case.

Hey Sean,

Cooper bats were first used in the Majors in 1986. I check the Red Sox roster for Rice's remaining years. Spike Owen wore #5 in 1986, Brady Anderson and Randy Kutcher in 1988, and Kutcher again in 1989. You could look and see if any of those three had a history of using tape on bats. I actually thought Brady Anderson did some, but you would have to look into it. Here's a pic of him from 1988. Cool pick up and good luck!

Default Thanks!

My buddy said the same thing; he thought it might have been Anderson.
I basically picked it up because (relatively speaking) it was super cheap, and I think it is the pro model Jim Rice.
I briefly looked last night, and Brady did tape his bats, although I didn't see the same exact pattern.
Something to do some research on for sure, when I get some time!

This is an invitation to a dinner which honored Chuck Dressen. It was during the 1924 season, in which the St. Paul Saints won the Junior World Series. They even added a little poem to taunt the Minneapolis Millers

Picked up a number of fun smalls at the flea market this weekend. The mini-pennants are made by Keezer, the Astros bobblehead still has to be cleaned up, the Hoag card appears to be something from hobby icon Frank Nagy (maybe it doubles as a business card?).
The Salada coins include three HOFers and are in amazing condition, the golf painting is from 1946, the track spikes are very early, and that's the first Danny O'Connell store bat I can remember seeing. The basketball photo is a semi-pro team featuring college All-American Barry Kramer of NYU.

I remember JR Phillips! But yeah...I assume Nelson had his own bats by '87 when he made the team out of ST...but this is from his Sept. '86 callup.

Default Way cool finds at the flea market

I had a rare afternoon off today; so I decided to drive down to the local indoor flea market/antique mall. Once, I scored an AWESOME UMaine baseball jersey, so I am always hopeful.

As I was browsing, I came across a box of old photos and RPPCs in the back of one of the booths. I happened to notice a baseball cap in the back, so I picked it up and started looking. And came up with GOLD!!!

1) I think it is a Brooklyn Dodgers player (don't know who?).
2) Same player, but now I believe that is Jackie in the background!
3) West Point RPPC.
4) Some kind of WWII plane.
5) This one looked like nothing, but was in with the WWII plane. Check out the inscription on the back!!! Is that the same Jimmie Doolittle who raided Tokyo?!?!?!
6) Some kind of gunslinger outlaw dude RPPC! I know, not sports, but the planes/outlaw guy just looked cool, so I thought I would share.

Dodger is Gil Hodges. Doolittle is likely the same one.

Default Cobb

Congratulations, Bob! That is an outstanding example of “A Fan for a Fan” Cobb. One of the best pieces of ballpark memorabilia in existence, IMO. Add that to your Mathewson Tuxedo box and you’ve had an incredible last few weeks!

The Brooklyn Dodgers player front and center in your snapshots is Gil Hodges. Can't say who the background player is.

Its unusual for me to come across something from the 71 Pirates that I haven't seen before. Thanks to icollectDCsports for contacting me about this item. I appreciate the assist. Although it's not quite as beautiful as Bob's Cobb fan I am thrilled to add this ceramic bank to my collection.

Player behind Gil Hodges may be Duke Snider...........
