My wife's grandfather spent his career at H&B which made the Louisville Slugger bats. Both Ruth and Cobb were clients of his, and he and Cobb became good friends. Cobb was one of his pall bearers when he died. He liked Cobb enough he wanted to name my wife's dad Tyrus. But her grandmother did not like Cobb at all and vetoed it.

If his wife is named Ruth that would be something. Multiple reports say he is an actual relative, but that has not been spelled out as far as I can tell.

Ty Cobb (the baseball player) is his grandfather's distant cousin. The lawyer is an interesting guy (I mean that in a positive way) and seems like a fantastic attorney. Here is an interview I read several months ago:
