Default Majors, Minors, who are these guys ?

Posted By: Joe_G.

A friendly board member sent me this asking about it....so I am posting for him.

Just kidding happy.gif, well sort of. This is another item from "D". I snapped a couple photos during my visit of what he (we) believe to be very early 20th century team likely from MI, maybe even the Tigers, but I'm not a good 20th century guy. What do you guys think of this postcard?

Only ten guys in the photo means it was probably just a town team.

I have no idea about the guys in the photo, but that Bead-weld Catchers Mask would sure bring a pretty penny in today's market. That style of early mask is especially desirable, and is very seldom-seen today. Hope somebody in the picture thought to save it!

The style of uniforms and mask pictured would indicate a time frame of around 1907 - 1915.

The insignia looks more like an "O" and less like a "D", to me anyway. Didn't the Oakland Oaks use an ornate letter like that at some point? Just guessing here.

The letter is definitely an "O". No question about it.

Striped undershirts were usually a college thing around the turn of the century. You see those all the time used as undershirts and even during fraternity rushes and class games. That coupled with the age of the players and the "O" on the jersey, I would think it is one of the maybe 10-15 colleges in America that start with an "O" like Otterbein, Oberlin, Ohio, Ohio State etc.
