Default Cy Young double-signed ball in Goldin

Two questions...

1. Any theories as to why the two signatures look different from one another? Were they signed at different points in his career/life perhaps?

2. Do you value a double-signed ball more, less or equal to a single-signed ball?

His signature varies a lot, even under the best of circumstances. As for the reason... Shakiness? Arthritis? Senility? Dimentia? Too many balls thrown during his younger days? Lots of wear and tear, amassing all of those wins and losses!

Seriously, the old coot lived forever, so the margin for variance is pretty wide. If pressed to guess, I would say the more "loopy" version is the later/shakier auto (if indeed the two were signed at different points in time). The first one pictured looks a bit more crisp/concise. But it looks to be done in the same exact pen... so perhaps he was just showing off both versions of his John Hancock.

As for the value... It just depends upon the collector. I personally would prefer 2 sigs over 1. Did you happen to win this one?

No. It's a really nice ball, but not something that fits in my collection. Thanks for the insight!
