Default Flipper flops...(and other disasters)

In the spirit of that BST thread, I was wondering...What was your worst attempt at flipping pre-war cards for profit ?

Trade bait, "break up potential", and impulse purchases you thought were total steals can count too. As long as you took a dive in the end!

I'm just really curious what cards you acquired with the intention of getting rid of it, that um...didn't work out the way you expected.

I'm just assuming you don't expect Mr. Cobb and Mr. Edwards to chime in....................

circa 2000, I bought the ex-Jim Copeland/Sotheby's 1873 Boston Bostons Team Cabinet (Al Spalding, both Wrights, etc) for $3,000 and resold it through MastroNet for $1,500. I assume it's worth quite a bit more than $3,000 today.

Honestly, I don't have hard feelings over the transactions as things sell more and less than you expect and it will usually about even out.

I bought a cheap Wagner reprint, soaked it in coffee, and then sold it to some knucklehead for $1800 a few years ago...

I'm and always have been more of a collector than a flipper...and I must say I've never lost money on a flip...and there have been few. I bought my t4 melchoir obak as a flip...and this green cobb....and this matty for a flip...but I fell in love with them and couldn't do it.

I'm a flipper failure.

I dropped a reprint Wagner in a cup of coffee. Ruined a perfectly good cup of coffee.
If it had been Starbuck's latte I would have been out $3.

I think Tully's and Starbucks use those plastics tops to prevent all those
errants reprints from flying into the coffee. All you have to do is look at eBay to see
it's a serious problem.
