Default T206 Major Hofers with rare Backs

Posted By: Jamie

I was wondering where the best auction site would be for a t206 Cobb, young or mathewson with a rare back, either Lenox, utzit, drum, BL?

Are there many examples of these out there... or is it like finding a needle in a hay stack..... cause I have only seen a couple and never for sale.

Well the Buy Sell Trade forum you posted a WTB in is a good place to keep looking. I'd register with nearly all the major auction services B.Sloate, REA, Mastro etc to see what comes up from them, but those kinds of cards are not always there. eBay is the one place I would not expect to find them except for a BIN at a high price with an owner testing the waters or willing to sell at a high price.

As I mentioned in the other forum the Christy Mathewson Authentic (GAI) BL 460 just sold in the cardtarget.com sell off. The last BL 460 in their group is the Klienow and it has a real strong offer on it already - from someone who has an interest there already. Oh, and they have a Walter Johnson Lenox SGC 3 going too.

No.

There are not too many examples of those, and it's an even smaller number that make it to auction, as a lot of folks (understandably) like to keep them in their collection once they are able to obtain one.

So just keep your eyes open and look to the big auctions houses like REA, Mastro etc.

Good luck!

Might want to just buy whatever HOFer you see with a rare back. Barry just had 2 HOF red Hindus. REA just had a couple reds and a couple Uzits. Goodwin just had a HOF Piedmont 42. Rare backs are tough and with a HOFer on the front even tougher.
You will see them-just keep watching, but just a note-there will be plenty of competition and even more if its Cobb, Matty or Young.
