Really glad you liked the site. It WAS an intense amount of work. Really really crazy. The scanning, the writing, getting and sizing all the photos to be uniform, all the data. Ugh it was a lot. Good news is I'm a teacher and just blitzed it last summer to get the darn site up and going.

Part of the joy of collecting is sharing. I was getting dulled and disinterested in collecting and figured the best way to renew my interest was to make a site so it's easily shared.

Maybe someday I end up selling the collection and including the site for the buyer.

Wish I knew more about SEO so the site could be improved.

Thanks for looking it the site. It means a lot to have collectors interact and enjoy it.

I'm sure some others with more knowledge can chime in on toughies, but there are a good number of deceased players from this set already. I won't catch them all, but looking at a checklist, these are guys I know have died: Howser, G. Carter, B. Diaz, D Smith, F Williams, D Moore, Boros, C Brown, T Phillips, S Anderson, Ruhle, Mahler, B Forsch, Fregosi, Welch, J Niekro, D Williams, Puckett, D Henderson, Bamburger, D. Lowry, Mauch, Gwynn, F Wills, Cerutti, Clutterbuck, Weaver, Pastore, Uribe, A Lopez, Scurry, Porter, Bergman, Quisenberry, Show, Flanagan & Andujar.

Ricky Wright is probably the #1 tough to impossible card for this set. For whatever reason, he is unwilling to sign that card and he seems to be harder than average to get in general for a common player.

Donnie Moore and Bo Diaz both died within a couple years after their appearances in the set.

Without reading all thirty something pages of this thread to seek out an answer, can someone tell me why in heck the 1987 set is so popular in the autographs world?

(Did I already ask this question?? It's possible, because whenever I see the thread, it's the first thing that comes to mind.)

For me personally, it is because it was the first set I collected as a kid. Opening hundreds of wax packs for Pete Incaviglia's, Todd Worrell's, and Wally Joyner.

Seriously though, I only started it less than two years after I saw someone else's quest and it has been a nice side project.......and relatively affordable.

The "through the mail" aspect of getting a large portion of them has been an enjoyable part of it as well.

I guess for me it was just something that happened in 2015. I had previously had about 10 signed in the set, but I had just about the complete set, and I was nostalgic for it because even though I wasn't alive in 1987, I do remember buying some packs as an adolescent and remembering some cards in that set - Otis Nixon, Jim Morrison, Bob James, Thad Bosley, Rance Mulliniks, Tracy Jones, I can't remember who else. I do remember thinking the set design was very sweet and it made me nostalgic for a decade I didn't live a single day in and I just thought it was so cool with the way it looked.

There are also plenty of terrific signers from that set. While Nixon isn't one of them, I remember him from Ken Griffey Baseball on the N64 and was pretty taken aback that he was around back then.

Finally a success. It has been awhile since I have been getting any returns. Sent this one to Yankee stadium a couple of weeks ago.

I saw Pena had been signing lately.

I recently took a job out of state, so the next time I go back home I should have some successes from the set. I certainly haven't given up on it. It's just that I don't have my TTM stuff delivered out here.

Second chance success. For some reason the card I sent to him last year never came back. This one took 2 weeks.

I know a couple of those players are available through Pastpros.

Dave Palmer
Cecilio Guante
Jose DeLeon
Dave Parker

I just ordered the first three for about $8 each. I am not a big fan of paying $25 for Dave Parker though.......twice!! Base card plus all-star

Quite a few players from the 1987 Topps set are in PastPros.

Alvaro Espinoza

Billy Sample - though he signs for free

Bob Horner

Cecilio Guante

Claudell Washington

Dave Palmer

Dave Parker

Oil Can Boyd

Dennis Martinez

Domingo Ramos

Eric Plunk

Jeff Russell

Jose Guzman

Junior Ortiz

Larry Herndon

Larry Parrish

Lonnie Smith

Mike LaCoss

Phil Bradley - I've gotten him for free

Ron Hassey

Shane Rawley

Terry Harper

Wallace Johnson

I have everybody above in the set except Plunk, Hassey and Harper. Some are cheaper than others, and not everybody I obtained via PastPros, but it's an excellent resource for those looking to collect this set or any other set from the 1970s onward.

Still waiting for Cecilio Guante.

Guante might take a while. I know Domingo Ramos was a bit, too. I sent to Terry Harper and never got mine back, so I was able to get a refund.

Great successes this week TTM. Finally got Jack howell, he has been signing for everyone but me it seems!!

Also, took a chance by sending to a few Toronto Blue Jays at the Roberto Alomar Fantasy Camp in Dunedin, Florida last week. Got a great surprise from Willie Upshaw and Jesse Barfield as they both signed my Team Leader card!!!! Sent to George Bell and Lloyd Moseby as well, no response yet.

I know its Barfield and Bell on the leaders card but it was a nice touch for both of them to sign it.

Love the Jays! Jesse’s sig is the best - readable and with his Uni number as well. Great auto from a class act!

On closer inspection of my 1987 Topps Blue Jays Team Leader card it looks like it was in fact signed by the two players on the card.......Willie Upshaw and George Bell, not Jesse Barfield as previously thought. George Bell was also at the Roberto Alomar Fantasy Camp.

I thought it was me when you said it was signed by Barfield. I am glad you clarified and got a bonus player to boot.

Rick Dempsey

Mike Kingery

Sammy Khalifa

This brings me up to a grand total of 371/792

Completed the Blue Jays outfield trifecta with this Lloyd Moseby ttm success! Got all three from the Roberto Alomar Fantasy Camp via ttm.

Barfield
Moseby
Bell (team leader)

Unfortunately I didn't get my George Bell all-star back.

Sweet......just noticed this thread passed 100,000 views! Good to see lots of interest in this thread and our 1987 Topps auto journey.

It's an awesome set to collect. I sent a few more out today and will be sending more out this next week. I had about 10 cards signed a couple years back. I knew I had the complete set. I really liked the design when I was a child and for whatever reason, I just decided to go for it with this set.

Also, Mike Heath returned my request unsigned recently even though I sent it in the Summer of 2015 and it took more than two years. I guess he now accepts mail for a $10.00 signing fee at The Athlete Connection.

If you need Vince Coleman, he is confirmed to be at the St Louis Cardinals fantasy camp at their spring training facility in Florida in Jan 2018.

No fee......just a shot in the dark for a ttm success. I try these routes rather than pay exorbitant amounts some of these players ask at private signings or shows. Especially since I am in Canada and the exchange rate and shipping is ridiculous.

Plus the thrill of getting a success is that much better.

Received Doug Drabek this week and mailed out a few dozen to Spring Training addresses.

I know it's not an 87 Topps but I have to post this epic TTM success this week. Card came back perfectly signed and still in perfect condition. Very happy with this one as I just missed getting him at Fenway 2 years ago.

Surprise success from Mookie Wilson sent to NY METS fantasy camp in florida last week.

Steve Carlton sent to his charity organization ($25).....looks a bit shaky.

Sent a bunch to various teams fantasy camps hoping for some more surprises!
