Default Help identifying issue - mid 60s(?) Hornung, Gifford, Tittle, Morrall

Picked these up probably about ten years ago - the person I got them from seemed to think that they were a send away premium from a coffee company (perhaps Chase and Sanborn or Maxwell House) in the 1960's. They are printed on canvas, blank backed but seem to show some aging on the back, and measure slightly less than 8x10. I would guess early 60s based on Hornung, Tittle and Gifford, and Morrall wearing his #15 Lions jersey. His only good year with Detroit was 1963, so I am guessing this could be a 1964 issue. Anyways, any assistance with the date and issuer of these would be appreciated! Thanks!

Default Help identifying issue - mid 60s(?) Hornung, Gifford, Tittle, Morrall

I have a similar print of a Pittsburgh Steeler player #48 (Gary Ballman??) which I was told was a premium of Yuban Coffee (Yuban Coffee is written on the back lightly in pencil). My print is also textured but measures 9" x 12". I also assume the issue to be early to mid-60's. Ballman was a rookie in 1962. Thanks for your scans! Mike

Thanks, Mike! Yuban Coffee would make sense based on what I had heard, as would the time frame. If you get a chance, I would love to see a pic or scan of your Ballman. Looks like his breakout year was 1964 (Pro Bowl) so that seems like a reasonable date for these. A pretty interesting issue - I would guess there were probably a lot more in the series. Thanks again for the help!

Wow...Those are beautiful! I knew these exsisted, but have never seen one. I believe Don Meredith was in this set as well. Any scans of that one would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve - I unfortunatley only have the 4 I posted. They certainly make for a nice looking issue. Perhaps someone can post a scan of the Meredith.

Yea, that's why I made the post. In hopes of someone who had the Meredith that was either willing to sell it, or just posting the image.

BTW...Beckett has these listed as "Uban" coffee portraits. I'm assuming that they have the spelling wrong because it looks like the company name is spelled with a "Y".

I understood what you were looking for - just trying to send a subtle hint to someone who I heard from privately who may come in possession of the one you are looking for.

I haven't bought the big Beckett football book in several years, as it was mostly just getting the additional multitude of new sets I'm not interested in, but it might be time to pick one up again.

Thanks for the info - I hadn't heard of Yuban (or Uban!) Coffee until this thread started, so this all has been very helpful.

I highly recommend the latest edition of the Beckett Football Card Price Guide, if for nothing more than to see my half page ad for my book/website .

Thanks, Steve. I think I will. In my mind it has been 3 years or so since I bought one, so I am guessing it has probably been more like 6 or 7! As a bit of an oddball collector, I used to know those books inside and out for the vintage issues. Life happens!

Default Yubans up on ebay

I have about six of the stars up on ebay, but I actually have 16/17 in the set listed in Beckett. Let me know if anyone is interested in these in an offline deal.

Player list is:
Gifford
Hazeltine
Brown
Ballman
Hornung
Charley Johnson
Meredith
Mitchell
Morrall
Pardee
Pietrosante
Retzlaff
Tarkenton
Tittle
Unitas
George
Cogdill

Check out the sold listings on ebay. A 16 of 17 lot sold recently and it shows all the cards. Looks like the original poster's cards are trimmed (that would explain the size difference) as these show a white border.

Default 1964 Yuban

I happen to know the guy that bought that lot. He's got a few of the stars listed individually on eBay now. Really cool set with amazing sharp colors!

The seller is not me BTW.

I think the OP's cards have a white border, but it's really bright and blends in with the background.
