Bicycle club....? But probably baseball, just too bad they didn't have any equipment. I really look for equipment to nail these types to baseball.

I was thinking cricket.

Probably not a bike club, most of them would have had a bike or two in the pic, and they were very fond of giving themselves medals. Usually for riding a certain distance, but sometimes just for paying the dues. (especially in the UK, where the cycling club was a more important social organization -sorry orgaisation. )

It's impossible to know for sure, but it looks like a baseball team-- in particular since there are nine men. They looked like baseball players to me, then I went and counted the people.

Agreed. Looks like it could be a baseball team, c. 1880, but you would think there would some piece of equipment if it was baseball.

With photos such as these, people will often ponder if it could be a cricket team. However, except for in the very early days, cricket uniforms are distinctly different looking than baseball uniforms. To start, cricketers didn't wear knickers.

If you look at the guy on the far right and his flamboyant elbow . You can see a fence post , what looks like a frist base line ( or a pitchers mound? ) . Now I don't know when the dug out was first used . If you look in the space of his arm it kinda looks like a dugout . And that's also a flag post back there .
I don't think just any place had a flag post back then . Lol I rarely see them now !
