Default 1925 Griffith Stadium

1925 news photo, Culver Pictures Inc.

Due to the dapper, sellout crowd in overcoats... I'd thought it was the WS vs Pittsburgh. On closer inspection, I now believe it's a regular season game, likely against the Red Sox (tough making out the uniform).

Pitcher exhibits a side-arm follow through. Look familiar to anyone (the ball is 3/4 of the way to the plate)? Also, what is the significance of this game? Thankyou, Steve

Here's a picture of a WS game between the Pirates and the Senators at Griffith Park taken from the Shorpy website. More of a focus on the crowd but some overlap of your picture, Steve.

Steve,
Walter Johnson was a sidearmer and that looks similar to his follow through. That being said, I'm not sure that this is him based on the blowup. Maybe
Hank Thomass (Hankphenom on Net54) will weigh in on this.

Neat photo never the less...

This looks like 1924, the only year they wore solid white uniforms. Probably a big game late in the season, judging by the size of the crowd. I can't say if it's Walter or not, possible but just too far away to tell. A lot of pitchers would be in a similar position at that point in their delivery.

I think you're correct about 1924. Wash played NY in the WSC and this batter's uni better matches the NYG in the HOF uniform database.

I see from the blowup it's not Walter, and that's not the Giants uniform, either. Red Sox, maybe?

Hi Rand,

Not Pitt. Last time a light color cap w/ dark visor was worn 1920. Also, even in b/w photos, Pittsburgh dark, striped stirrups showed. These stockings are of a single color imo.

A resource helpful in dating photos;
