If I was the kind of guy who had a spare $10M laying around, I can't think of any sports memorabilia item I'd want to spend it on. Unless it was something with great appreciation potential. Will be curious to see what it is, but sounds like it's going to be the sort of thing that hopefully gets displayed in a museum by the new owner.

That's what I was thinking. For $10M I'd rather own a Monet, but who knows....there's probably more than one billionaire out there who is sick of looking at of all his Monets.

I bet all the guys who have been passing on auctions for decades are very excited to spend the 10M nest egg they've been saving for that must have piece.

A 250 Testa Rossa sold for 16 million in 2011.

So much for the "first sports related collectible to sell for 8 figures"
