Joe DiMaggio Autograph IN-PERSON 1941

Just picked this up and thought I'd share it, Its an IN-PERSON Joe D. signed in 1941, Has very little resemblance to the later mass produced signatures he would crank out at shows by the thousands.
In 1941 he was a youngster just hitting his "stride", Historic season too in that he ran off his 56 consecutive game hitting streak, On his way to the MVP award, while Ted Williams was hitting .406 in Boston the same season. So Now an amazing trivia question, Who led the league in hits in 1941 ?

Many years ago, dealer Ron Gordon had an album page signed (and dated) by DiMaggio on the day DiMaggio had his 56th consecutive hit. I purchased the remainder of that autograph album book (with the exception of the DiMaggio signed & dated page). Ron's asking price for the DiMaggio page was too rich for my budget. Still, a pretty cool item to have viewed (via photocopy from Ron).

Yea, Cecil Travis (218) I always thought that was amazing when you have a 56 game hitting streak and a guy hitting .406, how does Travis sneak in ? But the reason Teddy Ballgame didn't get the honor is because his "on base pct" was so high , even though he hit for average and tore the cover off the ball, he got alot of walks.
Very Cool on the Ron Gordon item ! I once had a GPC that was postmarked during the streak and always amazed me that with all the pressure DiMaggio still found time to respond to mail requests for his autograph.

Thanks for posting Jim, I don't believe I have seen a Joe D auto from that era, very different than his show signing days. Don't know which is better looking, but I would take a playing era signature any-day of the week.

Can't wait to hear more stories about vintage autographs.
