Default Help with OPC Gretzky RC

I need the help of a Gretzky RC expert. Can you tell if this card is legit or not? It has the white dot on the left shoulder but other than that I can't tell. Thanks.

Default gretzky

It looks pretty good, but it can be tough to tell without a strong loupe. Take a look at the white "Wayne" through a loop. It should look smooth. If it is made up of a lot of dots it is fake.

Default Excited!

I bought the Gretzky pictured in the first post thinking it would grade a 6. Got the grade back from PSA today and it came back a 7!!!!!! Very happy about this one and I'll post scans of it when I have it in hand!

Congrats Jeff, it is a nice card... the corner touches in the scan probably dont look as bad in person...... Ive seen hundreds of them in person as my buddy owned a card store in edmonton up until 3 or 4 years ago. He always had 30 or 40 of them readily available to buy. They came and went often from his store. He had a real nice BGS 8.5 OPC, and a PSA 9 Topps.

That is one card on my want list.... Growing up in Edmonton, seeing 3 Cups won live in person, i was a huge Gretzky fan. Had tons of his rc's until mom gave away all my cards so she could fit the clothes basket into my closet. Who would want 35000 hockey cards from 1976-1983? na, id rather rebuy them all... especially the Gretz.

A PSA 7 OPC Gretzky RC sold for $650.00 on July 28. A PSA 6 OPC Gretzky RC sold for $316.00 on July 29. A HUGE price difference. I paid $400.00 for my raw Gretzky. As an added bonus, the seller gave me a bunch of free cards with my purchase that I flipped for almost $100.00. So the Gretzky cost me just over $300.00 plus about $50.00 to grade it (pretty expensive to do from Canada) for a total of $350.00. I'm pretty happy with how things turned out on this one!

Default 7? really?

While I am happy you will make a tidy profit, I am a bit chagrined that PSA deemed you card to be NM. When I submit cards in that condition I get 5s. Good luck with your sale.

The cards I think will grade high often don't, so I was a little surprised on this one. I seem to do better when I expect a let down. This card is not for sale though. I think this card will be the start of a Wayne Gretzky Basic O-Pee-Chee Set. 1 down, 13 to go!

Jeff

If you are going to do a basic Gretzky set, you gotta have a few other ones in there..... ya gotta have his rookie record breaker, his "Superaction" card, i think he had an "in action" card as well, his card with Messier, One topps card- the sweater card, and his all star cards.

I would stop at 1988 (thumb tack set)

I myself have about 500 gretzky cards... nothing great left due to theft , but still some decent ones....
