...that's the sound of someone jumping on the band wagon. If it was the early nineties, he would be paying $250 for the elusive FF card.

See one of his latest feedbacks?

Threatedsme? Dumm?

Someone doesn't watch Countdown and maybe Keith will make him "The Worstest Person" of the day if Bill O' Reilly didn't hold that spot.

Is it really anyone's business what he's bidding on? And is it okay to post someone's bidding list here?

As for a list of what folks are bidding on it is a public record, somewhat, and Keith is a public figure. In general I don't want to see lists of what individual folks are bidding on put on this board....End of discussion...

Hal - if you were a public figure - would you want someone to
"out" your identity?

It may not be a big secret to all of us, but as we all know everything in this forum is picked up by Google. This thread should be deleted.

I think it's innapropriate for the board to have a headlining thread detailing what someone else bid on ebay, especially when a full name is given.

As was once said, "If you're going going to say those things about me, have the decency to do it behind my back."

I don't think Hal meant any harm but Mark, you're 100 percent right: it's not proper to out the guy if he doesn't want to be outed. You'd be surprised at how many nuts troll the net looking for any bit of info on people they see on TV....

Guys...

Keith Olbermann WANTS people to know that he is the one bidding on certain cards...

so that they will be intimidated and NOT try to get into a bidding war with him.

Otherwise, I think the guy could have afforded a decent SNIPING service.

Further proof is that his EBay ID has been known by people in the hobby for YEARS... and he has NEVER changed it.

He could have done so for free and still kept all of his Feedback, etc.

I'm not sure how that link proves that he wants his ebay ID to be known. You can't even be sure if he reads this board.

The one thing I definitely KNOW is that he does read this board.

I've corresponded with him via E-Mail in the past.

He knows everyone in our hobby knows his EBay handle and it doesn't bother him.

That's why I posted this thread in the first place.

I wouldn't have "outed" anyone who is worried about privacy.

What my prior post "proved" is that anyone with Google who really wanted to find out who "Merkle923" is on EBay could have done so at ANY TIME since 2003.

This thread does nothing to change that.

PS - Just like everyone else whose EBAY handle is "known"...

Keith has a SECOND Ebay handle that he uses when he wishes to remain anonymous.

My favorite threads are the ones where Hal has conversations with himself.

Does anyone get the feeling that Keith would cringe reading this thread?

We should applaud him bidding on modern cards. The hobby needs to continue and new individuals need to be attracted. What better way than a public figure jumping in on a modern craze when he knows full well that this specific card could be obtained much cheaper in the next few years.

If his bidding on this card or the publicy garnered from the purchase, pulls in one person that becomes a contributing collector, he has done more than most.

Any post with strong conviction and/or debate with someone else most likely will qualify for not being able to be anonymous. Any post which I, or another moderator, deems to be controversial or "very" opinionated can be deemed not able to remain anonymous. Whatever you wrote was overboard for me....Stick your name to your posts and fire away. Don't stick your name to them and stay in the threads that are non-controversial and mainly factual. If you have anymore questions on this subject please email me privately or read the board rules...Nothing personal...best regards

Just as if you posted something off topic I wouldn't delete it the same goes for this thread by Hal. That's fair isn't it? And if anyone questions someone very much then they will put their name by their post or it will be deleted . thanks

Hal is a strong member of this Forum and there's no reason that this thread should be negatively debated as such. He wanted to make an observation about something and I don't think he thought it was going to be a big deal and be handled in such a manner. I think it's kind of neat (and interesting) and also I don't think it offends Mr. Olberman, knowing him a little. Plus, do you want Hal to leave the Forum like others? Do you sometimes wonder why some people don't want to come aboard? C'mon Board, your better than that.

If you don't like this thread or don't have anything to add that is of worth, move to a thread that you can add something to. Saying you don't give a "s--t" is not a positive reason to move the thread to the top. Move along.

Is it me or has the Forum been a little grumpy of late?

DJ

In the late eighteen hundreds and the early part of the twentieth century many pictures of baseball players were printed on small pieces of paper stock and distributed by tobacco and candy companies and to a lesser extent by other product manufacturers. In the latter part of the twentieth century and into the twenty first century these cards have become very expensive.

He definitely has too much money. Either that, or he's going to find a business purpose for it and expense it.
