Default Help in determining authenticity of vintage game used bats

I have a copy of Vince Matla's book currently on its way to help me along my vintage game used bat journey, and I'm quite excited for its arrival.

Now while Vince's book will help me in determining authenticity of game used bats by Hall of Famers with the shipping records and other information, are there resources available for bats of non Hall of Famers? Or is this a case where I will need to be sure that some form of provenance is provided with a bat to ensure game used authenticity?

One of the collection goals I have been throwing around is vintage bats of players who have played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. This will potentially, and very likely, include a good number of non Hall of Fame player bats.

Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

What I normally do is search past auction records of that certain player and compare the model numbers, length/weight and year of the brand. But I also contact a member from GUU that has alot of records from non-hall of fame members.
