Default Help With Old Judge Book

Posted By: Jay

As we progress on the book we find that the one thing we could use the most is information about the players of the 1888 and 1889 Western Association. Does anyone on the board know of a book that has team rosters or stats, or does anyone have any information concerning a single team or some players who only played in this league? A roster with stats from say the 1888 Chicago Maroons would be a great help. Please email me at oldjudge@gmail.com with anything you might have or feel free to post it here.

Thanks---Jay

I didn't know that a book was in the making. That's great news.

The Reach guide has some information such as a list of batting record and fielding record by position for the Western Assocation. Unfortunately, they really screwed up and didn't list the team names by the player names. However, they do list the team names in their list of pitchers along with their respective records.

There are a couple of books out there about the Western Association that covers the early years. Does anybody here have a copy? If not you can usually get something like this through inter-library loans.

Rob--Thanks for the response. I have the first Western League book and unfortunately it just deals with the Western League, not the Western Association. At this time they were different entities. I talked to the HOF and they are sending me photocopies from the 1889 and 1890 reach guides so hopefully that will be some help. I'm surprised that no one has put out a book with all the year by year stats for the Western Association similar to what they have for the NL, AA, and International League.
