Default T206 Experts: Why no Coombs?

I had a question for the T206 experts that made me kind of curious. Why was there no card printed of Jack Coombs?

In 1910, pitching for the World Champion Athletics, he led the AL in Wins (31) and Shut Outs (13-which is the AL record to this very day). He also pitched 53 consecutive scoreless innings that year, which was the record at the time. In the World Series, he pitched three complete games, and Won all three. Pretty impressive.

My question is: a season like that must be good enough to get you in the 460 series, no? How does that work, and why would he be left out? I am sure there is a logical reason that the experts know of, but I sure do not get it. Can anyone shed some light as to how they decided who would make the 460 series and who would not?

Thanks,

Derek

A question as an A's collector I have often pondered.

I believe the 460 Series subjects were decided on in early 1910. This would have been prior to the Coombs season referenced in the OP.

Default Hi Derek

Today is Jack Coombs birthday (1882).....quite a coincidence that you ask this very good question today.
Coombs' 1910 - 1911 seasons were outstanding, as he compiled a 59-21 record (near .750 %). But, this
was a little too late to have him included in the T206 set. So, that begs the question....why wasn't he in
the T205 set ? Finally in 1911, he is featured in the T201 set along .with his battery mate Ira Thomas.

We have discussed this "mystery" on at least two threads back in 2007 and 2008. Check them out..........

Listed here are some of the BB card sets Jack Coombs is featured in:

1910 Sporting Life Cabinets (W600)
1908-09 Rose Company P/C
1909 Ramly (T204)
1910 E98
1910-11 Sporting Life (M116)
1911 Mecca Double Folders (T201)
1912 Plow's Candy (E300)

Regarding this final question of yours......"Can anyone shed some light as to how they decided who would
make the 460 series and who would not ?"

I will call you tonight (or tomorrow) and discuss this with you.

Take care ole buddy,

TED Z

Thank you very much for the information Gentlemen.

I actually had no idea it was his birthday today, so that is a funny coincidence.

Call me anytime Mr. Zanidakis. It is always great to hear from you, My Good Sir.
