Default OT- Anyone know where to find retired player addresses for autographs?

Posted By: Brandon Brown

I used to have a book many years back that had a ton of retired old timers addresses for sending autograph requests. I would really like to find another updated list if anyone can help. Especially looking for St. Louis Cardinals players. Trying to get as many living former Cardinals autos on the 100th anniversary card set that McDonalds put out in 1992. Have Terry Moore and Slaughter before they passed, and would love to get more. Many thanks if anyone can help!

Email jack@baseballaddresses.com for info. You can buy Jack Smalling's address list for about $20 shipped. He's been publishing it for over 40 years.

Or write him at:
2308 Van Buren Ave.
Ames, IA, 50010

And if you're looking for deceased players, or players who won't respond to mail requests, I know of someone you can talk to.

Another extremely reputable & equally, if not more an accurate list would be Harvey Meiselman's. Besides baseball, he sells lists for other sports, too.

I also recommend Meiselman. He's great at responding to emails as well. Once you buy the list, he's always happy to provide address changes via email free of charge.

Mr. Smalling.

You can buy his book. Or you can get the updated list sent out sooner for a few bucks more, it will go in a ring binder.

He is first class. Doesn't suffer fools. Knows tons about autographs.

He is THE MAN.

The son of a guy I know did through the mail in recent years and had decent success with HOFers. That he was a kid and wrote like a kid helped. Players would prefer to respond to a kid than an adult. Also the dad had the son read about the player first so the letter would show that the kid knew about the player and his career.

Remember to keep the envelope from the player for posterity. When writing about a large through the mail collection, Mike Gutierrez said that the original postmarked envelope is one of the strongest signs that the accompanying autograph is authentic. And many collectors like to display the envelope with the autograph when matting and framing. Both for collecting taste and authentication reasons, the autograph with envelope is worth more financially than just the autograph.
