Default Original Photo Charles Conlon Eppa Rixey Rookie Year 1912..with a twist?

I thought this was a very interesting photo for many reasons. I recently acquired this original Charles Conlon photo of Eppa Rixey. I knew who Eppa Rixey was but, was unfamiliar with his career. When I was reading his Wiki page, I notice that this photo was taken in 1912 which was Rixey rookie season. In addition, I saw a photo on Eppa Rixey Wiki page, and it look very very similar to mine ,but from a frontal view. The photo used on the Wiki page, was actually taken by George Bain(the original negative for which is in the Library of Congress). Very cool to think that Bain and Conlon were taking a photo next to each other, of this rookie player name Eppa Rixey, almost seconds apart from each other!

This original Charles Conlon photo of Eppa Rixey also, is not part of the "Conlon Collection".

Special thanks to Lance who help me out on this photo.

Weird that the arms are in same positions, but the left leg is back in one and forward in the other. Also surprising that Bain's photo is so much better composed, but I guess that's just a matter of opinion.

Rixey's shadow is different in the two photos. Also, there's a little wooden bridge that covers the drainage ditch at the gate. It's up in one photo, down in the other. The photos were not taken t the same time.

I think that's just the angle. Maybe not the same exact second they were taking, but both Bain and Conlons were taking a picture(s) of Eppa Rixey next to each other while he was warming up.

If you look in the stands...they are empty expect one guy in a hat. That's in both photos. Distance seems right as well. The patch of grass that is dead by his foot as well.

Default sorry to hijack the thread

Strange that the Bain photo notes Fred Luderus, who may be off to the side.

One of the other Bain photos was used by Mendelsohn for J. Erskine Mayer's m101-5 card--thanks for the link as I am always trying to track down source photos for the m101 sets:

To me it looks like the bridge is down in both photos.

Luderus and Rixey had a facial resemblance to each other. I think it was a misidentification by someone who didn't know that Luderus threw right-handed.

Thanks for posting the other pictures from that day! Very cool!

For those who were interested I posted this is the B/S/T board. I will only have it up for sale/trade for a week. Someone asked about the photo size. It's 3.875 x 4.875.
