Default Graded T206 Set & Barr-Farnham Photo Post Card Album of the Washington Ball Club 1909

Posted By: Jim Ganley

Hello,

My Great Grand Father (Robert S. (Bob) Ganley) played on the 1909 Washington Senators Team along with Walter Johnson and other Hall of Fame players. I have his original Barr-Farnham Photo Post Card Co. Player Album of the 1909 Washington Bass Ball Club which was presented to each player on the team and includes original photo post cards of the entire Team, the Manager, the Trainer and individual photo cards of all the players which include:

Washington Base Ball Club 1909
Joe Cantillon Manager
J.W. Eddinger Trainer
W. P. Johnson, - P.
C.E. Smith, - P.
T. J. Hughes, - P.
Robt. Groom, - P.
Jerry Freeman - 1st B.
Bill Burns, - P.
W. D. Gray, -P.
G. F. Mc Bride, - S. S.
C. E. Street, - C.
R,A, Unglaub, - 1st. B.
Jim Delahanty, - 2nd B.
C. D. Blankenship, - C.
M. J. Kahoe, - C.
J. C. Milan, - C. F.
WM E. Conroy, - 3rd B.
R. S. Ganley, - R. F.
D.E. Keeley, - P.
Jess Tannehill, - P.
W. M. Shipke, - L. F.
O. E. Clymer, - R. F.

I plan on selling this Photo Post Card Album along with other original Post Cards and Photo's that used to belong to my Great GrandFather. I have many Original Photo's, all of which have been loaned to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY who made copies for their Library since they had very little of the 1909 Washington Team.

I am also planning on selling my complete, graded set of T206 Washington Senators tobacco cards:

I was planning on listing these items on eBay but I would like your opinion as to how I should proceed with placing these items up for sale. Is eBay my best option? Should I try selling the T206 cards as a Set or would you recommend selling them seperately?

I would be very greatful for any advice and suggestions you might have for me. I am not a "collector" so I'm trying to get a feel for the value of these items.

If you like, I can send you pic's of any of these items.

Thank You,
Jim Ganley (jganleysr@verizon.net)

Mastronet in my opinion would be the way to go with the postcard album...The T205's would probably do best as single card auctions on ebay.

Your grandfathers's postcar album and other items would sell well in a Mastro, Sotheby's or other major auction. I'm sure a 1909 team Senators presentation album from the estate of one of the players would go for big bucks at Mastro or Sotbeby's. I bet some Net54 readers are drooling right now.

I remember that Skip Sceery (sp?) from CT was looking for Ganley cards for one of his relatives a few years ago... was that you?

Bill

Lot 1678. 1909 Washington Senators' Barr-Farnham Photo Postcard Presentational Album
Personal and vintage, this leather-clad Barr-Farnum photo post card album channels that bygone era of baseball with individual portraits of the 1909 Washington Senators, featuring one of the greatest pitchers ever, Walter Johnson, before The Big Train - as he was called - really got that windmill windup into the record books; he held the all-time total strikeout record for 56 years. Contains 23 beautiful, sepia-toned images, all measuring roughly 4x6”, and all but one are individual portraits, that of Manager Joe Cantillon, trainer J.W. Eddinger, C.E. Smith, T.J. Hughes, Robert Groom, Jerry Freeman, Bill Burns, W.D. Gray, G.F. McBride, C.E. Street, R.A. Unglaub, Jim Delahanty, C.D. Blankenship, M.J. Kahoe, J.C. Milan, Wm. E. Conroy, R.S. Ganley, D.E. Keeley, Jess Tannehill, W.M. Shipke, and O.E. Clymer, and on first page, the team shot entitled “Washington Base Ball Club, 1909". This is one of four separate lots available from the family of team captain (1908-09) and right fielder Robert S. (Bob) Ganley, and note that Ganley’s portrait is a reproduction of the original, which the family chose to keep. Includes LOA from family.

Reviving an old thread to see if anyone has seen any Barr-Farnham postcards (the actual postcards?) These are some of the proofs and the album they came in. The bottom picture is whose estate these originated from according to his great grandson, above. The album is approx. 6" x 8".

Leon-Nice piece! I see the images with a Heritage Auction credit. Are they in an upcoming Heritage Auction or a past one?

Thanks Jay. It, the album including all photos, was in a Goodwin auction from approx. 12 yrs ago and a more recent Heritage one. It's not going to auction as far as I know.

What was the job of "Bill McNeil, Rubber"? And please don't respond "rubber" unless you can explain what a "rubber" is? Thanks.

Reviving this old thread again for a new pickup. This one was made in 1910. It's the Census Bureau
