Default New T205 variation

Not the most dramatic one, but it is a legitimate variation (and I haven't seen it mentioned previously). For Phelps, 1908 batting stats should read .234 like the American Beauty and top row sweet cap. In about 1 in maybe 10-20 red sweet cap backs, it reads .224. Examples shown below.

Show them if you got them!

Mac

That's a neat find!
The "2" ones in your pics all have some kind of blotching or scratching on the bottom half of the digit too. I wonder how that even happens.

I have a near back run (missing the Drum) and none of them look like that, including my Sweet Caporal.

Thanks for sharing!

Default Nice job Mac!

I have an Eddie Phelps T205 with a Polar Bear back with the correct .234 batting average.

Nice catch. It is interesting that the incorrect .224 cards look like the 2nd '2' in .224 has been laid over the correct '3', which doesn't quite make sense...why would they incorrectly correct something that was already correct?

I have a Phelps card. It is a Sweet Caporal red factory 42, and it is the .234 version.

#1. I agree w/Brian; nice catch Mac.
#2. I love to play the, "what if" game while trying to understand better, "historicals" as this. I don't know if print schedules for T205 have been assembled as in T206; but, "what if", ....
Sweet Cap Red was an early print run underway; some fella who proofs the job; mistakenly thinks the number is .224; stops the presses to make the change, continue the run; gets sent to his room by those who know that it was correct in the first place; the run is finished correctly; the other brands are then run correctly.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves;
well, on here; so we can all see.

Ben

I have seen and held thousands of these T205 Beauties and love how we are still finding mistakes and error variations. I will add this one to the Master list. Thank you for the clear pics and examples.

It's Honest so it had to be correct!

Nice catch on the variation. Stuff like this keeps our old vintage hobby interesting.
