Default 1951 Bowman Mantle.....fake or not?

I know this is a fake, I sent the seller an email and his reply:

"Who the hell are you and who asked you your opinion..anyways I took it in into a reputable store and was told it was truly authentic ..you moron."

Notice how the back scan has a chunk missing but the front doesn't...kinda reminds me of the movie Dumb and Dumber.

edited to add....I have reported the item to ebay (probably won't matter though)

edited again: he revised back pic @ 16:58

It's amazing how many of these fake cards always come from "grandpa's attic" or they are "family heirlooms". You would think these guys would come up with a new angle...

Definitely a fake, the blue (cap) and red (back printing) colors are way too bright.......

Default 51 Bowman

I agree with Phil & Doug. This one doesn't even look close to being an original.

At any rate, the seller sounds like a very classy and friendly fellow.

Based on his reply of "Who the hell are you and who asked you your opinion..anyways I took it in into a reputable store and was told it was truly authentic ..you moron." he kinda reminds me of Dr. House.

Sounds like an honest fella... if you think about it, everything is authentic. I have access to dozens of authentic forged Babe Ruth autographs. They are available for sale or trade if anyone is interested. Also if you check his other auctions he has a "Large Beatles Butcher [Yesterday and Today] Collection" up for auction and an "Authentic Stan Mikita Game Stick Autographed by Entire Team". That one has been in his family since he was 10 years old. Only a 'moron' would question the authenticity of such rare heirlooms.

Might want to ask him what that reputable store is. Then call them up.

"You can get this stuff at little corner stores called "bodegas." Say it with me,
BO-DE-GAS."

"These places always have incredibly old products. - But the weed ain't bad."

Some family the guy comes from. Did they give him an Action Comics #1 yet or are they saving it for a special occassion?

It would be funny if he said he walked into Dick's Sporting Goods and asked someone at the customer service desk if his card looked authentic. That counts as a reputable store right?
