1969 Topps Test Basketball

Not a typo-I have seen hints here and there of a wood grained tall boy test or proof card or two. Anyone ever heard of this or seen an example? I just got an old Becket BKB guide and it males no mention. For that matter, are there any other Topps Basketball sets from the 80's or earlier that are so off the beaten path Beckett does not checklist them?

Ha-I actually posted that scan a while back in a different context John--well played! I believe the Chamberlain is actually from the 70's, given his appearance etc and that the pix shown were of mockups. Having said that, it could indeed be the card referred to as a proof elsewhere. Topps Basketball seems to be the poor stepchild of the major sports back in the 70's. Just not many insert or test sets out there.

I think the mock up of Calvin M. is from 1970 as he only played one year in S.D. before the rockets moved to Houston. Wilt's last year in L.A. was in 1972/73, my theory is that one was a mock up for 1971 then to cut costs/include more players Topps moved to the standard size card.

Assuming you have searched this site, not active anymore but lots of info. on various basketball issues. I contributed the photos of the uncut sheets so LMK if you want better pictures of them, John.

That is a great site and I have spent some time there before. In fact, it has one of the references to the tall boy woodies I referred to earlier. I may already have nailed some of those scans-will have to check.
