Default My First Mantle - 1957 Topps

I picked up what I consider to be my first real Mickey Mantle. Although I have owned a 1960 Topps Mantle/Boyer for several years...I picked up a really beat up one a long time ago, my first base Mantle arrived today.

It's not the best example, but I really like it. It's a 1957 Topps PSA 4. What really attracted me to this card was the excellent centering. It does have one small crease on the front at the top running downwards but it is very slight and not visible on the back. The corners are soft as is expected at grade 4. It has good color in hand. I really like it.

Default 57 Mantle

Very nice Camaro---and the mystery man in the background is more muted than some

Don't knock it; that's a nice card. I love the midgrades--lets me collect more on a budget. I'd rather have a nice run of well-loved Mantle cards than one high grade.

Very nice pick up man! I love Mantles and I really like them with wear. I agree with Adam that I'd rather have a run of Mantles in lower/mid grade than one high end one. I'll never forget my first Mantle. This 1966 Topps that I picked up several years ago. I'll always have it in my collection.

Now you're going to want another one!

Best regards,

AndyH

Nice pick up ! One of the first things people seem to ask when they find out i collect cards is do you have a Mickey Mantle ? Picked up a nice 1959 last year(my favorite year) to be able to say yes I do. They then ask about a Ruth , not yet but some day . Also love the mid grade stuff that allows more money for other cards . Brett

The Ruth is cool as well but I'm hoping for one from his playing days . 1960 &1961 Fleer could be included in the group , I have a 1960 CVC of Ruth but not counting that one either . Saving my penny's for the Ruth ! Brett

Fair enough. I have always wanted one from his playing days as well. I might eventually grab a Sanella or one of his other more affordable cards. It is just so hard to purchase a Ruth when there are so many Mantle cards still out there to be had.
