http://dayton.craigslist.org/clt/3724756718.html

Um, wow...I'm with Mike...that seems way to good to be true. If that was real I wouldn't even hesitate. Heck, i'd fly out for that deal. Something smells there, just can't tell with the poor picture...which is yet another red flag.

How bout we split that up. I take the top, you have the middle, and the pirate have the bottom row.

Make sure you bring some friends and a saturday night special and dont do business in a parking lot

Less than $100 per card. Too good to be true, but April 15th is fast approaching and they may need to pay the IRS. Or have some other emergency. I would certainly take a look, you don't have to buy.

I'll second that. But they very well could be legit.

Good luck.
What the worst that could happen, you drove an hour and a half for a McRib?

I picked up one of those #407 Mantle/Berra cards about a month or 2 ago.
It was a PSA 5. Got it at a bargin.
Take your time and wait for one with good eye appeal.

Sure do hope this trip works out well... say it be like Xmas in spring.
Heck, you could sell some of the others and may re-coup the whole cost.
I wouldnt mind taking any of these..heck i take the football one. They are ALL nice!
Any plans on selling any?? if it works out

Default I'm with the skeptic crowd

The scan looks really legit and who would go through putting all those good looking cards in screwdowns? Yet, were it me, I'd have a friend follow me and give him/her/Bruno the dough. Maybe I'm paranoid. But, it's Craigslist and cards. I'm not bashing the honest Craigslisters...but, the situation is kind of funky, since you haven't heard back for confirmation. If you end up being given instructions to forget Mickey D's and told to go to some gas station at... you know the drill. Above all, if legit, he want's to sell. So why hasn't he gotten back. That's what I would do were I him and placing and ad to sell. Sorry. I'm just showing my NY Metro roots.

Cards look legit. Problem is, 1 out of every 5 Craigslist people are either flakes or will flake out on you.

Good luck.

Default Making the trip

Shawn---it would apparently not be a total waste if you picked up a couple of McRibs for Jeff .

Good luck to you

Al,

I'm always happier when I set low expectations.

Question

Ha.. no Mcribs for me, and no cards either... But I didn't get mugged either so that's good I guess.
I met the guy and looked at the cards. Honestly, I was very tempted to buy but I held back, cards looked to good. I'm no expert on aged reprints but all cards had near perfect centering and very bright(almost too bright) colors. The 52 bowmans had a dark green tone on the back and the berk ross's looked too good for the age. The only ones that Im pretty sure were authentic were the Aarons and 55 Mays. The Feller looked NM with perfect centering. I told the guy he could get a lot more for these cards as he acted dumbfounded. Very quiet guy not really eager to sell but when I said I would buy his eyes lit up and finally met mine. You guys are right, too many red flags..although they may be real... just had my doubts. told him I would call him mid week to see if he still has them. Need to think and do more research on these cards being reprinted.
Plus I got him down to $1000

That gut feeling is there for a reason. Keep your cash and don't look back.

That number is too low! Seriously, I have looked at Craigslist in STL for cards pretty much every day for at least the last 6-7 years. Had a couple good hits:

-Bought a 59 Gibson and Aaron for $100. Sent Gibson in to PSA and came back a 7.

-Bought complete sets from 71, 73, two 75s, multiple 76,77,78,79,80-84 for $300. ExMt or better on all.

Multiple near misses similar to this post. Best was a group of 50-53s with five, yes five 53 Bowman Mantles. Seller flaked out overnight and sold cards to a family member.

Shawn,
Good for you for trusting your instincts...many people would have bought them 'hoping' they were real.

That would be a helluva score, assuming the cards are all legit, not reprints and not trimmed. But what screams out at me is all those desirable cards . . . why aren't they slabbed to max out on the sale? Or, maybe they were and came back EOT and he cracked them out to sell as raw originals. If it were me, I would keep my $ and keep walking.

I'm gonna guess that they are so hot they could burn off your fingers, if they are real.
