Default Bowman Rookie Mantle Graded PSA 5 Gets $20,000+

Hunt Auctions last night. And Hunt is not high profile like the PWCC or Heritages of the world. I think with the Buyer Premium it cracked twenty thou.

Many were feeling this was going to happen. Big premium when this card looks nice. Congratulations to the winner.

I'd disagree Hunt is less high profile than ebay

I was shocked considering the centering was off left to right and the wax stain on the back. It was a nice 5 but I didn't think it would go above 10-12k.

I also thought it may fly under the radar a little given the site but obviously was mistaken. It looks like the market is completely changing for the 51. Makes sense though with the record prices for nice 52s.

For this card, I think that centering is high end. Gotta look at it compared to others. Back wax would not bug me.

With the price of the 1952 Topps Mantle, and now the 1951 Bowman Mantle both increasing in value, do you think the next year Mantles will follow? Specifically, will the 52 Bowman and the 53 Topps be pulled up by some of the record prices for the first year Mantles?

I believe it's already happening. I was in the market for a mid-grade 1953 Topps a little over a year ago and was able to get a decent centered SGC 60 for $1100. Same card today is selling for upwards of double that and consistently for $1800+.

It's definitely better than most 5s. I just didn't think it was 19k nice. Apparently at least two people disagreed which is all it takes for a record price to be set.

I agree that, while it was a very nice card, it wasn't a super high end 5. Centering was above average, but the card had its flaws.

I did see a small dot or stain on Mantle's sleeve. Where did you see a scan of the back? I checked the site and couldn't see one.

I bid on the card and requested a back scan.
