Nothing like having one other bidder cost you $1,700.

Leon,

I know nothing about those. What's a conservative estimate on the retail value of that group?

If that's accurate, it makes the extra $1,700 at the hands of the underbidder much more palatable.

I believe she had four or five lots all together, I was rebuffed on my attempts to end it early.

No wonder, they were listed in the photo category of memorabilia.

I never would have found them. Dan must really have some good search keywords.

Edited to add: 2 auctions...... double dang!!!!!

Seller(s) left $$$ on the table, the break up value is huge.

I saw them and bid (Dan beat me!). That being said, I have a hard time getting too excited as the players are merely Amateur players. I would have gone in much stronger if they were a true minor league team. Neat cards nonetheless, congrats Dan, I was hoping they were hidden enough to get a steal. But I guess I should know better by now.

I'm not sure where people are arriving at a "wholesale" or "retail" price for these, given the few recorded sales on ebay or other auction sites. While these cards have rarely surfaced on ebay, they do of course surface locally from time to time in the Vancouver market (where these arose) and where the ballplayers played.
I did see and bid on these auctions, and placed what I consider reasonable prices, given the past purchases I have made. Perhaps I am out of step with the market, or least the post-sales market.

People are certainly entitled to pay for a particular card what they wish, and it is nice to see that amateur ballplayers from the 1930s are getting their respect in this form of higher prices.

(Leon: I'm not sure why a type collector would want more than one card from a set )

I think Dan actually won all 5 of the lots with a total of 70+ cards.

Very nice find Dan.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I was worried about these as they had no bids for way too long. And I was right as at least four other forum members were involved in the bidding. eBay puts up 2 million fake auctions and you still can't hide stuff from Net54ers!

That could have been the start of another set....I am already going after a D303 Master set of Mothers and General Baking and also am going for the 1916 Big Head W-Unc set......I had to do something once I was nearing the end .....(and still need a few cards)

Didn't Mark Macrae offer some of these for sale on his email list not too long ago? Anyone remember his asking prices?
