I'm no expert on these, but I believe its an early 1950s vintage photograph of ST. LOUIS CARDINALS Hall of Famer AL 'RED' SCHOENDIENST.

I knew someone would be able to identify this photo. Just judging from his age, I put it in the early to mid-50s but I'm grateful for you pinpointing it exactly.
