Default New Figurine Display Case - Nodders, Kails, etc

Posted By: Keith

I just picked up a much needed display case for my nodder/kail/etc collection. I wanted to share some photos of it, and was hoping to see some other nodder/figurine collections as well.

The focus of my collection is obviously the Philadelphia Eagles, but I have a fair number of football nodders and kails as well.

My Eagles Kail Colletcion:

My Eagles Square base nodders, Gibbs Connor Bank, Weico Ashtray, and Hartland

My Eagles Nodder collection and 2 Late 60's early 70's Eagles Helmet Banks (made by Made by Wyatt, Dunagan, & Williams)

My non-Eagles Nodder Collection - mostly merger series

My non-Eagles Kails and Lions Gibbs Connor bank

Hi Keith

I like it!

That's well made and makes the items look incredible!

I collect Hartlands myself but don't have any kind of cabinet. Not sure what I plan since space in my small office at home is limited.

Thanx for sharing.

Looks great Keith...

I have one that's nearly identical, but you fit a lot more in yours than I did in mine! Congrats on a very nice display, and a great collection!

Keith,

Here are some of the Nodders I have... I think these are the only sports ones I have. I have many others but they are packed away. Can you help me as to the value on these? Anyway, nice collection!

Thanks Mark and Shawn,

Shawn, as to your nodders, I am not that up on baseball nodder values, so I checked Tim Hunters Price guide that I have. It appears your Astros nodder is a pretty rare one as far as gold bases go. Most of the Astros nodders have just Astros on their chest and a blue hat, where about 3% of them have an orange hat and a shooting star above the astros decal. He put a value for that one at $250 for Ex, 600 for NM, 800 for M. I see some chipping/paint loss on yours, and am not sure about the condition otherwise (under the neck, etc) but seems like a toughy for that set. The Braves doll ranges from $70 in EX to $130 in Mint. The football nodder appears to be a generic square based nodder that was produced with no team affiliation, my guess as to value would be 20-30. The last one on the right appears to be new bobblehad, and not much for value as far as I can tell, but I don't know much about newer bobblheads like stadium giveaways etc.

thanks again
Keith

Keith is right on with the price of the Nodders. Prices really have not changed much since Tim Hunter released that book.

Unfortunately, condition is "everything" with collectors, so one hairline crack can actually knock 40% off the price in some cases. Bobbing Head collectors are among the pickiest and most OCD of all collectors, and really pay a premium for Mint unaltered examples.

Keith...
I do not recognize those 3 Kail Statues that appear to be on grass, with a goalpost in the background. Are these vintage 1960s, or newer releases? They look nice.

I collect Rams stuff, and have had an impossible time finding a nice, unrepaired vintage Rams Kail. If/when one finally does turn up, it always gets snapped up before I can contact the dealer/seller. Seems like Kail may have made fewer Rams than any other team... just guessing?

Hello Mark,

The 4 small Kails with the base are vintage 1960's Kails. I have shown them to some dealers (Inside the Park, and Touchdown Treasures), and they have never seen those type of bases before. The bases are very well made, with the felt applied and the goalpost on the back of the base. I am not sure if these are homemade or were some sort of special release in the 60s.

Thanks Keith and Mark for your time and info on these nodders... I had no clue as to any value, just had them boxed up for years. Pretty cool!

Thanks Keith...

Just took a better look at those 4, and want to re-phrase my statement... instead of "they look nice", should have said "they look incredible"!

I wonder just how rare these are? There aren't many sports figurals from this era that I can say I've never seen before, but these qualify. I don't like to talk about money on these forums, but cannot help but wonder what these would go for in an auction, or from a dealer.

Can you possibly email me off-line to let me know what you know to be the value of these?

Great display! I love the Kail statues, Nodders and Hartlands! I have been collecting Kail statues (Vikings) for quite awhile now and have never seen the ones with the goalpost and grass. If those are from a series I would love to get ahold of the Vikings. I would think if Lou from ITPC or Mike from TT has not seen them they are either very very rare or they were homemade. Thanks again for showing your dispay case as I love to see how other collectors show off there collection.

Mark, I don't know your email address, but shoot me an email to kjjavic@aol.com.

As to the statues, I purchased a group of 8 Kails at an estate sale about 4 years ago. 4 were the ones with the bases, and 4 were small standing Kails without the bases. I have yet to see another like them, and have not seen a Vikings one either.

Also, I guess 1 other possibility to their origin is that a store made the bases for the statues to sell them. Meaning that they weren't made by Kail, nor were they made by a single collector. I am not exactly sure how these statues were sold in the 60's. Were they sold in stadiums? or sporting good stores? or 5 and 10 type stores?

That's a great looking cabinet. I have a collection of resin statues from Danbury Mint and when my grandmother passed away, I got her curio cabinet that she paid $1,000 for. It's a beautiful cabinet and it really enhances the appearance of the statues.

regarding the Kail's with the bases if they are homemade someone did an excellent job...they would have had to have been removed from the original base and that doesn't look like an easy job.
