Default 1956 Prize Frankies Cleveland Indians ad found!

I've always been intrigued by the Prize Frankies Cleveland Indians set. For years, the Standard Catalog listed only one card, Vic Wertz, but the back of the card suggested there were 24 cards to be had. In the last several years about 6 more cards were brought to light, suggesting the cards may have been issued after all, though sparingly it seems.

Trying to find more info, I had searched the term "John Liber & Co." from the back of the Vic Wertz card several times over the years but came up empty. Then about a month ago, I came across a 1956 Cleveland Indians schedule on eBay, that was sponsored by the "John Liber Meat Co." I searched this new term on a few different newspaper sites, and bingo! - an ad for Prize Brand Franks that advertised the card set! The Prize Brand Franks ad shows up in both the Aug 2nd and Aug 9th 1956 Salem (OH) News.

As a bonus, the ad gave a clue about yet another collectible - a special card of Tribe radio announcer Jimmy Dudley! No doubt this is going to be just as tough to find as any cards in the set.

Really hoping this new info can lead to a complete checklist one day.

That is cool. I love these kinds of revelations about our cards.

Default Prize frankies

This is one set i never had an example of which begs the question why not?
If they were in hot dog packages why didnt anyone save them?...they were a send away but it says you get your
tickets and they return your set of cards to you...so either no one ate their hot dogs or we have a bigger mystery?
Where are the cards?

Good question! I wish I knew.

I found two more ads in the Salem (OH) News, bringing the total to four ads for this promotion, all from August 1956.
