Default Low to Mid Grade 1913 National Game

Posted By: RayB

Just picked up a small batch (10) of these for my collection.
Is SMR out of whack; price wise on these for mid grade. PSA 5 levels?
Is the Standard Catalog a good indicator for VG or EX price levels?
Got a G/VG Cobb in the lot as well. Antbody got a feel for the value on that?
How tough is it to find these?
Thanks in advance for any help. Anybody with experience who could give a quick primer on the set would also be appreciated.

Thinking about putting together a low/mid grade raw set.
RayB

Ray,
Don't know whether you did it yet or not, but here's the results of search for this set. Some good reading and likely answers some of your questions.

If your new to the WG5 and WG6 sets, the only thing I can add is look out of reprints. The difference is the reprint have more a rounded corner. The authentic cards have corners cut like a playing card, the reprints have corners far more round. Also the reprints are made of card stock far thicker than the authentic cards.

If your cards corners are like this card below it is authentic.

The SMR is completely worthless when it comes to pre-WW2 cards. Catalogues aren't much better since the lead time to print is so large that they are out of date by thet time they go to press. The only way to get an accurate guage on pricing is to track eBay and other auction sources.

Since most of what I do is pre-war, I am fully aware of the generalizations that can be drawn about SMR and The Standard Catalog in regards to pre-war cards as a whole, and eBay's ability to provide real time valuations for pre-war cards.

Since I've just picked up these National Game cards, I was just looking (hoping) for information on the set and price comparisons for this set in particular from anyone here who collects it.

Anyone that prefers to respond by email contact me at aja4rayb@msn.com
Thanks.
Ray
