It looks like 80% of the hammer is due to the pissing contest between the last two bidders. Sniping stops this silliness.

I logged on about twenty minutes before the auction was over to bid and was shocked to see the price. I also had the same thoughts, place your ceiling bids with five seconds to go or you leave yourself open for shill bids. I have a feeling that this one will be relisted.

I kind of did the same thing... I checked the auction with very little time remaining and was completely amazed at the bidding. I hope the seller gets that high bid because it looks as if the person wanted it pretty bad. I bet the seller is going to be surprised...

The card's worth a bit more than $40, with the more scarce ad back, and Cravath shouldn't be regarded as a common, leading the league in HR 6 times counts for something. Overbidding happens often enough with a rarity, or something unusual showing up on Ebay.

i was hoping to bid about $25-$30 snipe for that cravath card.(since it does have paper loss on front). what never fails to amaze me is when a high bidder (whose latest wins include an andre kostelanetz lp and rube goldberg book..NO CARDS!)over pays 10x for what i think the card is worth. just does not make sense?

Hi Rob,

Well, I wouldn't have paid more than $40 for it

If anyone's interested in nice VG semi-common players with Famous & Barr backs, I've got a bunch for only $300 apiece!!

I signed on with about 10 minutes to go thinking a $35-$40 bid might win this one...boy was I wrong (and disappointed)...I hope it relists.
