Auctioned as John J Sullivan:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5242653738&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

But....is this the same sullivan from the 1919 whitesox team, he only appeared in 4 games for them and only played in 1919??? the only other sullivan this could be would be John L who played for Boston and the Cubs (but his carrer was 1920-21)

It is John L Sullivan. All 3 of my books list the player as such.

This also the raises the question, is 1923 the correct date for this issue? I jsut went through my list of players that only appear on Willards. Only 2 players had their career continue past 1922 and 3 never played past 1921. One player never played in 1921.

I would say it is pretty safe to say that this set WAS NOT issued in 1923 as it would have included 4 players that never played after 1921. Personally, I would lean towards 1921 as the date of issue although a strong case for 1922 could be made too.

I am going to spin this off into it's own thread so Mr Lemke will look in.

or at least not John J. Sullivan, who is listed as a left-handed pitcher. Unless the photo is inverted, the guy on the card is right handed. Also, that is not a White Sox uniform he's donning, although it doesn't quite match up with the teams the other Sully played for either.

This card has a pose very much like the T3 Turkey Red card of "Billy" William Joseph Sullivan, SR., who played for the White Sox from 1910-1914.

Ted, I would have had to give you beatting if you did. I was so bummed when you linked this as this one of the palyers that makes his only card appearance in this set and had my snipe set for it. Fortunately, I won it, so you are safe for now
