Default 1952 Mantle in today's Wall Street Journal

Today's (Wednesday's) Wall Street Journal has an article on Mickey Mantle cards, particularly the 1952 Topps, in its sports section (on the back page of the Personal Journal section). It's also online, but behind a paywall, and I'm not sure how to provide a link that will work for non-subscribers. Below I've put the link that they give to e-mail the article, but I don't know if that will work. In any case, I took a picture of the article and posted that below, and I think that should be legible.

Saw this earlier today. Amazing for the whole baseball card hobby on a macro level, to get that kind of mainstream spotlight— and especially cool to see the article give love to all those other cards of The Mick alongside the '52 Topps.

I'm inclined to think you're probably right, although maybe a brief delay to the extent the WSJ article generates new players.

Wish I'd kept my high-end "8" '56 I parted company with several years ago--I'd be selling it now!

Best wishes,

Larry

I'm 22, so I never had the chance to buy packs and pull these cards for cheap.

...But I do enjoy sharing these articles with my dad to make him feel like crap.

If you continually call "it's the top of the market" for a decade or more you will no doubt eventually be right. And it will probably be small solace as lots of people made lots of money while you were on the sidelines bemoaning the imminent "top of the market".

My view has always been to buy what I want and can afford, regardless of impending financial ramifications. For me, collecting is a hobby. I expect that my wife will be selling my collection upon my timely demise (67) and whatever it brings, so be it.

+1. I buy low- "collector grade" stuff for the most part and most of the high end price moves make no difference to me. It's interesting and head scratching to watch from afar.

Finally, I was getting kind of worried there for a minute.
